ARLINGTON, Texas — Marvin Harrison Jr. has made no formal declaration that he is opting out of the Cotton Bowl, but Ohio State’s football’s star receiver made a statement with his attire and participation Tuesday morning.

Harrison was present at the practice inside AT&T Stadium, site of Friday’s game against Missouri. However, he was in street clothes and spent the early sessions open to reporters on a stationary bike in the end zone.

During the 25 minutes or so open to reporters, Harrison was the only player whose Cotton Bowl status is in question who did not participate in practice.

Harrison is widely expected to be one of the first players selected in April’s NFL Draft. As such, the Heisman Trophy finalist and Biletnikoff Award winner was not expected to play in Friday’s game.

Prior to leaving for the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York earlier this month, Harrison said he had not decided whether he would play. He also said he felt some pull to return for another season after Ohio State lost to Michigan again and failed to play for the Big Ten championship.

With such a lucrative NFL career in front of him, though, it never made much sense for him to expose himself to injury for a non-playoff bowl.

The rest of Ohio State’s receiver contingent was in full pads and practicing, including fellow third-year Emeka Egbuka. He had already said he will play in the bowl.
