CLEVELAND, OH — One of the intense rivalries in the National Football League writes a new chapter on the opening weekend of the 2023 season, as the Cleveland Browns get set to host the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals are expected to be in the running to represent the AFC, but the loss of their star quarterback, Joe Burrow, for several weeks during camp due to a calf injury raised cause for concern in southern Ohio. For a team that was one defensive stop away from the Super Bowl, and a costly penalty from heading back to the big game, Cincinnati looks like they are right on the door to winning it all. However, they need to do the little things this year, against top competition, if they want to be in Las Vegas this February.

It was a tumultuous 2022 season for the Browns, to say the least. The backlash of getting rid of Baker Mayfield in place of the troubled DeShaun Watson, to then, having to wait out the successor’s 11-game suspension, seven wins for Cleveland seemed like an accomplishment. For a team that, two years ago, was a couple of plays away from going to the AFC title game, the rebuilding will continue for the Browns, as they are hoping Watson has a bounce-back season, while relying on the rushing attack, led by the veteran Nick Chubb.

This will be the 100th meeting between the two teams from Ohio, with the Bengals leading, 52-47, with Cincy snapping a five-game losing skid against the Browns in December of last year.
