Former Ohio State punter joining parade of ex-Buckeye transfers in SEC
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jesse Mirco’s hang time in the transfer portal turned out to be brief, and like many Ohio State football transfers, the punter is headed to the SEC.
Mirco announced his commitment to Vanderbilt on Wednesday. He entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal one day after his biggest punting performance of the season in a 14-3 Cotton Bowl loss to Missouri.

Vanderbilt has won more than three games only once since 2018. It has not posted a winning season since 2013.
However, special teams has been one of the Commodores’ occasional bright spots. When associate head coach and special teams coordinator Justin Lustig was at Syracuse, he coached Andre Szmyt, who won the 2018 Lou Groza Award. Vanderbilt’s Matthew Hayball was a finalist for the 2023 Ray Guy Award.

Mirco is the 13th Buckeye player to transfer to an SEC program in the past three years. Chip Trayanum committed to Kentucky earlier in this cycle.
