Cleveland man arrested for April murder in Mt. Pleasant neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A Cleveland man has been arrested and charged for a deadly shooting in the city’s Mt. Pleasant neighborhood.

Charlie Cooper, 25, pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder at his arraignment Thursday morning.

He is currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on $500,000 bond.

On the morning of April 17, officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of East 123rd St. and Imperial Ave.

They arrived to find 38-year-old Shannon Collins on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to investigators, Collins, who lived in Euclid, had been shot in his head, neck, and upper extremities.

Police records show he was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:21 a.m.

In addition to Cooper, a woman has also been charged in connection with Collins’ killing.

Nicole Meadows, 27, of Cleveland, was arrested on April 17 and charged with obstructing justice.

She was released from jail on a personal bond and her case has been bound over to a grand jury.

Cooper is currently on community control stemming from 2023 arrest in Westlake, according to court records.

On January 18, he pleaded guilty to drug possession, a fourth-degree felony, but Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Brian Mooney stayed the proceedings and did not find Cooper guilty.

Cooper was instead placed in the probation department’s “Intervention in Lieu of Conviction” program, which is “designed to meet the unique needs of low-level, nonviolent probationers with minimal prior criminal histories,” according to the court’s website.

He is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on May 13.
