What’s his deal?

Armstrong committed on the same day as his twin brother (Deontae) and projects as an interior offensive lineman at the next level.

Like his brother, Armstrong has unique athleticism along the line that should serve him well at the college level. Listed at just under 300 pounds, and at 6-foot-5, he’s got the necessary size already to be an impactful guard at the college level.

While he’s played the left side in the last two years for St. Edward, moving him to the right side if needed shouldn’t present a major issue for the Buckeyes.

How he fits into Ohio State’s plans

Considering the style of offense the Buckeyes run, adding Armstrong’s athleticism onto the line should pay dividends eventually.

Ohio State isn’t a team to play a power brand of football and run straight ahead like a Michigan or Notre Dame, and Armstrong will fit right into that mold. Considering how he’s changed his body over the last few years of high school, his size, versatility and style of play make him an excellent fit for the Buckeyes up front.

Projections for 2024

Like most offensive linemen, a redshirt year is almost certain for him.

He’s a player that will likely be hurt by the logjam of players competing for the six interior spots up front in the two deep, but that’s natural for offensive linemen. When the end of the 2024 season comes, and spring practice begins in 2025, then there’ll be a time to see what Armstrong can do on the field.

He’s played a high level of high school football for years, but even that likely won’t be enough to help him get onto the field sooner — assuming Ohio State brings in at least one or two transfers along the offensive line.

But for 2024, considering the learning curve for offensive linemen and considering what’s ahead of him on the depth chart, it’s hard to see an immediate role forming.
