CLEVELAND, OH – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) hosted the Propel Ohio 2023 Student Leadership Summit at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. The one-day summit connects Ohio students at community colleges and technical schools, colleges, and universities with resources and promotes civic engagement. More than 300 students and administrators from 58 Ohio community colleges, colleges and universities attended this year’s summit.

“Eight years ago, I started the Propel Leadership Conference to bring together student leaders from all around Ohio and help them make connections with each other and with leaders in public service, business, and nonprofits,” said Brown. “From voting rights to climate change to women’s health, this generation is the most civically-engaged that we’ve seen in a long time. Democracy works because we make it – we organize, we advocate, we push for as long as it takes. And so often it’s young people doing that work.”

The conference featured discussions on public health advocacy in Ohio, as well as breakout sessions for students to engage with regional experts and other students on civic dialogue and civic engagement. The summit also included an engagement fair, where students had the opportunity to learn about internships and volunteer opportunities.

Brown hosted the summit in partnership with Case Western Reserve University, Ohio Campus Compact, Ohio Education Association, City of Cleveland, University Hospitals, College Now Greater Cleveland, and the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters.
