3-year-old dead, man injured after shooting in Cleveland’s Stockyards neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb confirms a child was shot and killed Thursday in the city’s Stockyards neighborhood.

This took place around 2:20 p.m. in the 3500 block of West 66th Street near Denison Avenue.

Cleveland police said a 3-year-old boy was inside a car with his mother and 11-month-old sibling when shots rang out.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 3-year-old as Luis Diaz, of Cleveland.

A man was standing outside the car. The 3-year-old and man were both shot, according to police.

Cleveland EMS took them to MetroHealth, where police said the child later died.

The man’s injuries are non-life threatening.

Persons of interest have been detained in connection to the shooting, according to police.

Investigators are still searching for additional persons of interest.
