19-year-old woman killed in Slavic Village shooting, 15-year-old sister injured
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A 19-year-old woman is dead and a 15-year-old girl is injured, after being shot in the city’s Slavic Village neighborhood early Sunday.
Cleveland police said ShotSpotter alerted officers to shots fired in the 7000 block of Gertrude Ave. around 1:20 a.m.
When they arrived, they found both victims.
Cleveland EMS pronounced the 19-year-old dead at the scene.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified her as Crystal Pittman, of Cleveland.
Pittman’s close family spoke with 19 News and shared that she was extremely generous and cared so much about her family and friends.
She was a Euclid High School graduate who was currently at Cuyahoga Community College.
Pittman was working with the Department of Developmental Disabilities helping people with their daily needs in their homes.
She was doing all this while applying to colleges in Texas where she dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur.
Police have not made any arrests, but do have a person of interest.
“We do have a person of interest that we are looking to confirm and, speak with. And once we get to that point, we believe we can hopefully have a little bit more clarity as to what occurred at this incident,” said Sgt. Freddy Diaz, the public information officer with the Cleveland Division of Police.
The 15-year-old was transported to a local hospital. She was treated and released.
“We do have a person of interest that we are looking to confirm and, speak with. And once we get to that point, we believe we can hopefully have a little bit more clarity as to what occurred at this incident,” said Sgt. Freddy Diaz, the public information officer with the Cleveland Division of Police.
