18-year-old dies after shooting on Cleveland’s east side: Police

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – An 18-year-old man is dead after a shooting on Cleveland’s east side on Christmas Eve.

According to Cleveland Police, at around 9:27 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Lakeview Road for reports of a man shot.

When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old man with gunshot wounds inside of the In and Out Beverage and Deli store on Lakeview near Earle.

EMS and police officers rendered first aid, and the shooting victim was taken to University Hospital where he died.

A source close to the investigation tells 19 News that seven young people, with masks rushed into the convenience store with guns and began firing at the 18-year-old victim.

The source says not only was the victim targeted, the suspects backed him into a corner where he couldn’t escape the violence.

19 News has been told that about 40 rounds were fired, some hitting store shelves and the floor as well as the victim.

We working to learn more about what led up to the shooting and if any arrests were made.

Cleveland police said its homicide unit is investigating the incident.
