1 dead following Cleveland police officer-involved shooting: Sheriff
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – One woman is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Cleveland, according to investigators.
Cuyahoga County spokeswoman Jennifer Ciaccia says Cleveland police officers were in the 10500 block of Garfield Avenue when two cars drove past at high rates of speed, one of which opened fire.
Cleveland officers fired their service weapons towards the vehicles. One vehicle fled the scene and the other crashed nearby, Ciaccia says.
Ciaccia says officers found a woman outside of the crashed vehicle, where they rendered aid until EMS arrived and transported her to University Hospitals.
The woman, identified as 26-year-old Antwonia Carter, died from her injuries.
The Cuyahoga County Use of Force Investigation Team is currently investigating the shooting, Ciaccia says. No arrests have been made.
It has not been confirmed whether the victim died from a bullet fired by the suspect or an officer, or by the crash.
