Pervis Spann, WVON broadcasting legend, to be laid to rest Thursday | Watch Live

CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago begins saying goodbye to broadcast and music legend Pervis Spann.

Spann died final week at age 89 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s illness. The Mississippi native helped B.B. King launch his profession and was often known as “The Blues Man.”

Spann started his radio profession within the 1950’s and later bought WVON within the late 70s. He additionally labored as a live performance promoter, boosting Aretha Franklin and the Jackson 5’s music.

Spann’s wake begins at 10:30 a.m. at Apostolic Church of God, adopted by his funeral at midday.
