CHICAGO (WLS) — Lincoln Park Zoo’s new African lion is making his public debut this weekend.

Pilipili, which suggests pepper in Swahili, is exploring the outside habitat for the primary time beneath the watchful eye of his mother.

The cub was born on March 15 and is the offspring of 3-year-old feminine Zari and 4-year-old male Jabari, zoo officers stated. He’s the primary African lion cub born on the zoo in 20 years, in keeping with the zoo.

“Because the cub grows, he has grow to be extra curious and energetic and has been surpassing essential milestones akin to leaving the den field and consuming strong meals,” stated Curator of Mammals Mike Murray. “Zari, a first-time mother, has offered unimaginable maternal care to the cub from nursing to grooming.”

His caretakers say he has repeatedly surpassed essential milestones and name him a curious cub.

The cub’s identify honors the Pepper household, whose donation enabled the zoo to remodel its historic lion home into the Pepper Household Wildlife Heart.
