New Jersey beach sand collapse leaves teen dead, 17-year-old sister injured

TOMS RIVER, New Jersey — Police in Toms River, New Jersey say an 18-year-old has died after he turned trapped within the sand whereas digging a big gap on the seashore.

In line with police, crews had been dispatched at about 4:09 p.m. to the seashore entrance close to Seaview Highway on the barrier island.

Police mentioned 18-year-old Levi Caverly, of Maine, and his 17-year-old sister had been digging a big gap when it collapsed and trapped them.

The 17-year-old was rescued and handled on the scene, police mentioned.

Caverley didn’t survive the collapse, police mentioned. Crews had been nonetheless working to recuperate his physique.
