More than 300 pairs of children’s shoes on display represent kids with prior DCFS contact who died

SPRINGFIELD, Ailing. (WLS) — Greater than 300 pairs of youngsters’s sneakers had been on show on the Illinois capitol Thursday. They symbolize the kids who died from 2019 to 2021, and who had prior contact with DCFS.

The show was organized by a gaggle that got here collectively following the dying of AJ Freund, who was killed by his mother and father roughly three years in the past.

Illinois Home Republican chief Jim Durkin referred to as the show “very emotional,” saying it represented a horrible failure by the state.

The group that organized the show hopes it’ll have a higher influence merely listening to the variety of youngsters who’ve died.
