CHICAGO (WLS) — Native lawmakers stated they’re set to fulfill with the president of the College of Illinois about allegations of racist teachings at UIC’s Faculty of Dentistry.

In a letter to the varsity, Congressman Danny Davis, Congresswoman Robin Kelly and State Rep. LaShawn Ford stated they obtained a number of complaints from college students.

The allegations embrace accusations that one professor used a racial slur and requested a couple of scholar of shade’s “pure hair,” and that racist imagery is utilized in class, together with an image of somebody with a noose across the neck.

“College students and alumni of UIC Faculty of Dentistry have expressed to us that racist teachings and the unequal remedy of scholars has been ongoing for years,” the lawmakers stated in a letter. “A current revelation made us conscious of a noose showing in a PowerPoint presentation for seven years, which is disturbing. … This professor has continued to show with none response or motion from the college. College students of shade have reportedly continued to be focused on the college from being requested about their ‘pure hair’ to being known as the N-word.”

The varsity says an investigation is underway.
