Chicago ‘Playpen’ boating accident victim who lost legs leaves hospital

CHICAGO (WLS) — The girl who suffered a life-changing harm in a ship accident close to Navy Pier is now out of the hospital.

Lana Batochir shared a video as she packed up and left Northwestern Memorial Hospital final week.

The mom of two was severely damage final month, after a ship crashed right into a raft that she was on along with her buddies within the space of Lake Michigan generally known as “The Playpen.”

The accident occurred late within the afternoon on Aug. 13 because the captain of a rented yacht struggled with a malfunctioning anchor and started drifting, in response to a preliminary accident report.

To right the drifting, the captain positioned the boat in reverse and it smashed right into a floating raft. Some individuals on the raft fell into the water, and Batochir and one other girl acquired caught within the yacht’s propeller. The opposite girl misplaced a finger and lower her arm.

Batochir stated her husband saved her life by pulling her from the water.

She underwent a double amputation of her legs beneath her knees.

An investigation into the accident remains to be underway.
