4 killed when 2 small airplanes collide mid-air at North Las Vegas Airport

NORTH LAS VEGAS — 4 individuals have been killed when two small airplanes collided in mid-air at an airport close to Las Vegas, officers say.

The collision occurred round midday Sunday on the North Las Vegas Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration says a single-engine Piper PA-46 and a single-engine Cessna 172 collided within the visitors sample round midday Sunday.

FAA officers say the Piper PA-46 was making ready to land when it collided with the Cessna 172. The Piper crashed into in a area east of Runway 30-Proper and the Cessna fell right into a water retention pond. Authorities say two individuals have been in every aircraft.

The North Las Vegas Fireplace Division confirmed 4 fatalities on the scene.

North Las Vegas Airport is a public-use facility about three miles north of downtown Las Vegas. It’s used primarily by smaller plane for normal aviation and scenic excursions.

The FAA and the Nationwide Transportation Security Board are investigating the reason for the crash.
