Houston Public Works officials said Tuesday they were cleaning sewage sludge from an area of the Almeda Sims Wastewater Treatment Plant in southwest Houston following a storage tank rupture. About 600,000 gallons of partially treated sewage solids, known as sludge, spilled from the failed holding tank between 5 and 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officials said.
