Georgia woman arrested in Cryptocurrency case out of Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrests a Georgia woman in a Cryptocurrency Grand Theft case.

detectives traveled to Macon, GA, and in coordination with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Marlita A. Andrews for Grand Theft, Money Laundering, and Scheme to Defraud for her part in a warrant scam that occurred in Sarasota County.

SCSO’s Economic Crimes Unit worked diligently with financial institutions and tracking money transfers to locate this suspect.

This is the first arrest to be made by our sheriff’s office where cryptocurrency was used as the mechanism of payment.
