Wildfire burning on hillside near Cal State San Bernardino

A wildfire is spreading along a hillside near California State University, San Bernardino, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District.

The fire is burning behind a residential area, east of the university, near I and 59th streets in San Bernardino.

The fire has a “medium” fuel source with a “rapid rate of spread,” the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District stated on social media.

As of 7:13 p.m., the fire is 23.4 acres in size and “crews making good progress” on the fire, according to San Bernardino County Fire. Officials have not said what may have caused the fire at this time.

Video of the scene provided by firefighters shows flames towering over the homes below. A timelapse of the fire from Alert California shows the fire spreading across the hillside. KTLA will continue to monitor the fire as firefighters work to stop the blaze.
