San Francisco residents look towards future after firing Dem mayor in effort to clean up homelessness, drugs
Residents in California are looking to turn over a new leaf with the election of San Francisco Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie, who defeated incumbent Mayor London Breed.
Lurie, a first-time candidate, Levi Strauss heir and founder of an anti-poverty nonprofit, positioned himself as the tough-on-crime alternative to Breed’s lax policies on crime, drug use and homelessness that plague the city.
Lurie bested Breed, the city’s first Black woman mayor, by a more than 10-point margin, 56% to 43%.
During his first speech as mayor-elect, Lurie committed to “clean and safe streets for all, tackling our drug and behavioral drug crisis, shaking up the corrupt and ineffective bureaucracy, building enough housing, so our neighbors can afford to live here, supporting our small businesses and breathing life back into downtown.”

Steve Hilton, a Fox News contributor who also worked for British Prime Minister David Cameron, told Fox News Digital that the change came after San Francisco reached new lows in recent years.
“This great, iconic city has just been collapsing into crime and chaos and squalor and decay because of far-left policies, because the Democrats have been in charge forever,” Hilton said. “You’ve seen open-aired drug markets, you’ve seen homeless encampments everywhere and crime is rampant.”
“And finally, people have had enough, we want change” he said. “So they kicked out Mayor London Breed and elected Daniel Lurie. He’s a Democrat, but a reasonable one. He wants to clean up this city.
“People want change in California – you’ve seen that across the board.”

Other residents in California’s once crown-jewel city told Fox News Digital that they hope Lurie’s election would bring about change.
Chris Cheng, a 17-year San Francisco resident and a professional sports shooter, said that he’s excited for Lurie’s policies to be implemented.
“I’m very excited about the election results here for mayor. I used to support London Breed, but the past few years have been very tough in the city,” he said. “The past few months have gotten better, but it’s just been too little, too late.”
BAY AREA CITY PAYS $1.5 MILLION AFTER YEARS-LONG FIGHT TO TAKE DOWN CROSS
“I voted for Daniel Lurie, and I believe he’s our best choice for mayor to turn around the dire situation in certain parts of San Francisco,” Cheng added. “My neighborhood has its fair share of homelessness and drug addicts – and I live in a nice neighborhood that typically does not have that.
“It goes to show that the character of certain San Francisco neighborhoods that were traditionally safe for kids has changed. We really need someone like Daniel Lurie to come in and enforce the law, clean up our streets and make them safe again. Let’s turn the corner in San Francisco.”

Lee Neves, a California Democratic Political Consultant, told Fox News Digital that he hopes the party moderates in the wake of the city’s mayoral results.
“I think voters in San Francisco and across the Bay Area definitely sent a message on Tuesday. They are tired of the status quo. They are tired of the hug-a-criminal policies and making excuses for homelessness,” he said. “They want results, they want the homeless off their streets and out of their parks.”
“They want their streets and their parks back, and to be able to go shopping without being worried about being robbed,” Neves added. “Voters are fed up with it. The Democratic Party needs to get a wake-up call to moderate our policies.
“We need to come to the center where people are so people can feel safe in their community.”

Shoutout to the 2025 San Francisco 49ers, a fun team despite the ending
I’m going to do something I don’t normally do and drop essentially everything I learned in journalism school in the name of stream-of-consciousness thoughts on the 2025 San Francisco 49ers (still did the full team name, word to Sac State J-School) after their divisional playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks (he did it again).
This 49ers season had no business being fun.
The Nick Bosa injury in Week 3 felt like the end of their Super Bowl hopes. The Fred Warner injury in Week 6 dashed basically everything that was left of any optimism about their chances of doing something this year. It had 2020/2024 vibes, and that was miserable.
But this season, despite a blowout loss to Seattle on Saturday, was not miserable. It was super duper fun (analytics, catch the wave), and it’s easy to forget that matters.
I’m the managing editor here at Niners Wire. I also host a podcast called Candlestick Chronicles. Both are sources of income for me which turned a thing I’ve loved my entire life (the 49ers) into a job. Objectivity becomes a necessity and fandom wanes into something different than the thing that once caused the beginning of the end of a long-term relationship to end because the person thought it would be funny to put on highlights of the 49ers losing the Super Bowl only two days after the game.
However, there’s still part of me that cares deeply about the 49ers. I grew up with my mom as a 49ers season ticket holder. I went to games at Candlestick and at Levi’s Stadium. My first core football memory is watching the Terrell Owens catch against the Green Bay Packers in the 1998 wild card game. I was at Candlestick for the 2011 divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints (anotha one), and the next week against the New York Giants (anotha one). I watched the 2012 divisional playoff win over the Green Bay Packers (he’s on fire!) at the San Francisco airport while I waited for my mom and grandfather, who were at the game, to come pick me up. We celebrated in the car the whole way home.
There are so many other memories in the bank that have helped shape me as a sports fan and pushed me to get into the profession I currently hold. They’re part of me, which helps put the 49ers’ loss to the Seahawks on Saturday into perspective.
Sometimes in the crush of the news cycle and trying to provide objective analysis of what’s happening, the fun of football and the reason I love the sport gets lost. This season helped me remember it.
San Francisco had no business being 12-5 and playing for the No. 1 seed in Week 18 of the regular season. They had no business going to the playoffs. They had no business winning a playoff game on the road in Philadelphia. And while a 41-6 loss in Seattle is a, um, suboptimal conclusion to the season, it doesn’t erase the ride.
It doesn’t erase the 49ers’ 3-0 start and Mac Jones’ insane run as the team’s starting quarterback.
It doesn’t erase Christian McCaffrey’s chase for another 1,000-1,000 season or Kendrick Bourne’s back-to-back weeks with 142 receiving yards.
It doesn’t erase Brock Purdy’s game-winning touchdown pass to Jake Tonges in Week 1 at Seattle, or the upset win over the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football in Week 5.
Pick a memory from this year. There was so much joy in it despite how sideways things got on the injury front.
The 2025 49ers season ruled, even if it ended with a dreadful performance in a loss to their biggest division rival. Seattle gets to move on. San Francisco doesn’t. But the 2025 49ers and all of their various backups-turned-starters will hold a special place in the deep 49ers memory bank in my head that will forever be neither closed nor locked.

Why Bo Nix Still Has Major Upside Despite His Injury
The ecstasy of victory, followed by the crushing news of injury; Denver Broncos fans are reeling after coach Sean Payton revealed that starting quarterback Bo Nix will miss the remainder of the postseason with a broken bone in his ankle.
The fractured occurred during the second to last play for the Broncos in their 33-30 overtime victory against the Buffalo Bills, and the former Oregon Duck is already scheduled for surgery. Looking at this injury in the scope of Nix’s overall career, the stall in postseason momentum provides a massive challenge but also proves an upside in Nix’s influence with the Broncos.
Bo Nix Brings Success to the Broncos
For any Bronco fan, it’s obvious that Nix’s impact can be directly seen in the production of the team flourishing after almost a decade of stagnancy. This upcoming AFC Championship will be the first hosted at Mile High since 2014.
Amassing 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns this season with three touchdowns (26/46 and 279 yards in the passing game) against the Bills, Nix was securely the starter at Mile High prior to his broken bone incident. Nix took nearly every single snap over Stidham in 2024 and 2025.
The Broncos were also a Super Bowl favorite heading into the divisional round. However, after Nix’s injury broke into the headlines, their odds have dropped down to +850 at DraftKings Sportsbook, further illustrating Nix’s importance as a leader.
Bo Nix’s Success at Oregon Shows His Ability to Endure
After Nix’s tenure at Auburn, he took a potentially dwindling career and pivoted to the Ducks which resulted in a breath of new life and the current success he’s having to this day.
Getting benched from the starting position at Auburn halfway into the 2021 season, Nix joined Oregon and coach Dan Lanning in 2022 to help produce a 10-3 season and then continued to fight with a 11-2 2023 season topped off with a Fiesta Bowl win and a visit to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Nix’s past history of leadership and comebacks shows that the current success in Denver isn’t a fluke, and likely isn’t a one time spark depending on his ankle recovery. He revived his career at Oregon, and Nix hit the ground running in the NFL. This latest injury might be a speed bump in his path, and how it affects the Broncos team remains to be seen, but Nix has shown the ability to get back up after being knocked down.

Bo Nix Dealt With Ankle Injuries Before
With all this success, there’s proven ground that Nix can bounce back for another successful season with the Broncos. Plus, according to Payton’s same post-game media availability, this type of injury is something Nix dealt with in the past.
“He’s such a strong, faith-based guy,” Payton said. “He’s sitting in the hallway with his family and coming over and we’re all talking to him. He knows that God’s got a plan for him and he said he had (a broken ankle) in high school and then he said he had one at Auburn.”
“He’s a tough cookie,” Payton added. “And this team all year has lost key players and will rise up for the next challenge.”
