Anti-Israel demonstrations continue near DNC for 3rd night as crowds gather in larger numbers
CHICAGO – Hundreds of anti-Israel demonstrations continued for a third straight night in Chicago as the Democratic National Convention (DNC) proceeded just miles away at the United Center arena.
Protesters, many decked out in keffiyehs, assembled in significantly larger numbers than Tuesday, marching down Maypole Avenue along Park 578 waving flags and banners, including a massive one that read, “Biden, Harris You Will See! Palestine Will Be Free!” along with “End U.S. Aid To Israel” and “Stop Genocide.”
A leader of the march shouted into a megaphone, “DNC your hands are red!” prompting a callback from the crowd.
Fox News’ Paul Mauro, who was at the scene, described the early evening demonstrations as “peaceful but very boisterous.”

“Definitely the largest we’ve seen. In fact, it’s so large there are three separate bullhorns going at the length of about three or four city blocks, probably about a half a mile,” Mauro said.

Later, police directed marchers to head back to Union Park where the demonstration began. Officers were well organized, cordoning off the march route with bike units and riot cops. Toward sunset the crowd began to fizzle out though a few demonstrators stayed behind.
The demonstrations happened just a few miles down the road from the United Center, which on Wednesday was set to feature former President Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Chicago police confirmed Wednesday that 56 protesters were arrested the previous day after violent clashes with police.

The confrontation happened outside a building housing the Israeli Consulate about two miles from the United Center.
Chicago police said one person was charged with a felony for resisting an officer. Nine others were charged with misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct, resisting a police officer, battery, assault and criminal damage to property, police said. Thirty of the people detained by police were issued citations for disorderly conduct.

— One of two suspects charged for their alleged roles in a Sept. 24, 2025, drive-by shooting in Montevideo has entered a guilty plea.
David Michael Pillatzki, 28, of Willmar, entered a petition Thursday, July 2, in Chippewa County District Court to plead guilty to a charge of aiding and abetting a drive-by shooting, which will be reduced from the original felony to a gross misdemeanor as part of a plea agreement.

The agreement also calls for Pillatzki to cooperate in the prosecution against the other man charged in the incident.
The criminal complaint against Pillatzki alleges that he was a passenger in a vehicle from which shots were fired at a residence on the 400 block of South Third Street shortly after 8 p.m. Sept. 24. There were two occupants in the residence. Neither was injured.
Pillatzki was upset that his Ford Bronco had been shot on or about May 3, 2025, in Willmar, according to the complaint.

The man suspected of firing the shots, Albert Vaniler Hughes, 27, of Montevideo, was charged in March after the results of laboratory analysis by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were received.
DNA and ballistic evidence link Hughes to the gun used in the shooting, according to the complaint filed against him.
He has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of drive-by shooting, intentional discharge of a firearm, and reckless discharge of a firearm.
The District Court recently assigned his case to a different judge, and a new court date has not been scheduled.

KCFD: 1 adult, 1 child, a dog displaced after a house fire in the 3800 block of Myrtle Avenue
KANSAS CITY, Mo — The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department is investigating a house fire that displaced one adult, one child and a dog early Saturday morning.
KCFD companies were dispatched around 3:08 a.m. Saturday to a reported fire in the 3800 block of Myrtle Avenue.
When they got there, crews found heavy fire coming from a two-story vacant home, with flames extending into a neighboring house.

The original home where the fire stemmed from ended up collapsing on itself. The flames were extinguished and brought under control around 3:48 a.m.
City Planning and Dangerous Buildings was requested to the scene.
No injuries have been reported from this incident. Red Cross was called to help assist the adult, child and dog.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by KCFD.

Nebraska women’s basketball landed a commitment from four-star 2027 center Addison Medeck. She was a prolific player for Papillion-La Vista South last season.
Medeck averaged 16.5 points, 12.2 rebounds and shot 59% from the field. She is the 37th-overall player nationally in her class, the 7th-overall center, and the top player in the state of Nebraska, according to the 247Sports Rankings.
Her only offer came from the Huskers and it came on the same day as her commitment. Now, Amy Williams and the coaching staff have locked up another in-state star.
This is the first commitment for the 2027 recruiting class. This gives Nebraska a solid starting point from which to build its class around. Williams and her staff will have a multifaceted player to work with over the next couple of seasons.
