USPS mail carrier shot and killed on the job, police offering $250K reward for info
A quarter-million dollar reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for shooting and killing a U.S. Postal Service carrier.
Police in Warren, Ohio, say they responded to a call Saturday around 1:44 p.m. in reference to shots being fired. When they arrived, 33-year-old USPS employee Jonte Davis, who was on the job at the time, was found suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators believe Davis was shot while inside his work van by a suspect in another vehicle.
Officers and emergency medical technicians tried to save him on scene, but he was taken to a hospital where he later died.

A suspect’s vehicle was located on a home’s driveway within a few hours, Warren Police Department said in a Facebook statement. A search warrant for the home and vehicle were obtained and executed.
“Evidence, including the suspect vehicle, was recovered and several individuals were transported to the Warren Police Department to be interviewed,” the police statement said.
No one is in custody at this time for what police call a “targeted attack.” It is believed the suspect and victim knew each other.
The U.S. Postal Service and Federal Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced the $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects involved in the homicide, according to a press release obtained by WJW-TV.
“He was kind and happy a family man,” Davis family friend Tracay Kindler told WKYC-TV. “He wasn’t on the streets doing anything illegal, he was trying to provide for his family.”

A witness told the media outlet he heard six shots before he and his wife ran up to the van, finding Davis injured but still alive.
“The postal truck was still running, and I was worried someone was going to get hurt, so I took the key out,” the man said. “I just kind of held his hand and I said, ‘It’s all right, buddy, the ambulance is on its way. It’s going to be OK, but if it’s your time, it’s your time.’”

AAA: Michigan gas prices fall below $4 per gallon
Michigan drivers are getting some much welcomed relief at the gas pump as the cost for regular unleaded has fallen below $4 for the first time since April.
Michigan gas prices went down 14 cents since last week, with a gallon of unleaded fuel costing an average of $3.96. The price is about 25 cents less than drivers were paying last month, but still around 80 cents more than Michiganders paid this time last year, according to AAA.
For a 15-gallon tank of gas, that equates to an average of $59 to fill up — an increase of about $8 from 2025’s highest price reported in August.
In Metro Detroit, average daily gas prices decreased to $4.01 — or about 13 cents less than last week’s average but still 81 cents more than the same time last year.
The most expensive averages reported by AAA were in Ann Arbor ($4.05), Metro Detroit ($4.01), and Lansing ($3.97), with the least expensive averages reported in Marquette ($3.62), Traverse City ($3.90), and Flint ($3.91).
Domestic gasoline supply decreased from 216.3 million barrels to 214 million, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), while gasoline demand increased from 8.73 million barrels per day to 9.21 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10 million barrels per day.

Vandals smash car windows in St. Louis Park neighborhood
Neighbors along a three-block stretch in St Louis Park, Minnesota, say vandals smashed car windows early Sunday morning along Quentin Avenue.
A spokesperson for the City of St. Louis Park said officers took 18 reports of vehicle tampering and stolen property around 5 in the morning. The city wouldn’t confirm how many cars were hit, but said the investigation is ongoing.
“I was just pulling out and I had to swerve and avoid all the glass on the street because most cars on this block had their windows smashed,” said Nachshown Fertel.
While Fertel’s car wasn’t damaged, a car parked across the street was smashed across the windshield. Two others were missing windows.
“Obviously, it’s expensive to repair and we don’t know who did it,” Fertel said. “We all have Ring cameras, but since most of them were on the street, only a few people caught glimpses of it.”
Two blocks away, WCCO talked to a man with four damaged cars sitting outside his home. He said all the windows on his family cars were smashed early in the morning, but no one got away with anything valuable. He called the whole ordeal upsetting.
Aharon Harkavy spent part of Sunday cleaning up shattered glass in his driveway. He said neighbors have had issues with stolen cars and some break-ins in the past, but this string of damage felt like an escalation.
“This needs to stop, the police need to really do something about it,” he said.
Back in May, Minneapolis police were investigating a string of break-ins on the southwest side of the city. That followed 30 cars hit by vandals in April over an 8-hour span. Last summer in Minneapolis, there were roughly 475 vehicle break-ins in 30 days between July and August.
Fertel said many of his neighbors in St. Louis Park attend the same synagogue and the community came together to help with repairs.
“I went over to the rabbi and I said, ‘Can we start a fund?’” Fertel explained. “I got a few people to donate. We pulled together some funds to help people pay for the damage.”
