Isaac Wilson is staying home, but he won’t be following in his brother’s footsteps.

Wilson, the four-star quarterback out of Corner Canyon, committed to the University of Utah on Wednesday. Instead of heading to BYU, where Zach Wilson threw for over 7,500 yards and became the No. 2 overall pick in 2021, the younger Wilson will chart his own path.

He chose the Utes over BYU, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA. BYU was his first offer.

“Everyone is like, ‘Oh, you are Zach Wilson’s little brother,” Wilson told The Salt Lake Tribune in October. “Know me by me, I’m Isaac Wilson all right.”

Wilson has been arguably the most discussed recruit in the state of Utah for the last year. He has climbed the rankings, becoming the No. 14 overall quarterback in the nation, according to 247 Sports. In his first year starting as a junior last year, he accounted for over 30 touchdowns and led his team to the state title game.

All of Wilson’s brothers attended BYU and played there. Outside of Zach Wilson, there was also Josh and Micah Wilson who played linebacker for the Cougars. Notably Wilson’s father, Mike, played football for the Utes.

Utah’s quarterback situation gets murky after this season. Cam Rising will return this year for a sixth season of college football. However, the succession plan includes a bevy of unproven options.

Currently Brandon Rose, Bryson Barnes and Nate Johnson are also in the quarterback room. Utah could look for a transfer. But Wilson will step into a room without a clear option as a freshman.
