Here’s why both of New Mexico’s senators voted against Todd Blanche for Trump’s Atty General – New Mexico Political Report

By a one vote margin, 50-49, the United States Senate voted early Saturday morning to approve President Donald Trump’s nomination of Todd Blanche, his former personal attorney and acting attorney general, to be the permanent Attorney General of the United States. Todd’s nomination was opposed by every Democrat and two Republicans, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

Senator Martin Heinrich, a Democrat, issued this statement:

“I voted against Mr. Blanche’s nomination because he has repeatedly shown that his loyalty is to Donald Trump – not to the Constitution or the American people.
“He has transformed the Department of Justice into the President’s personal law firm, using it to enrich and protect Donald Trump and his family. Mr. Blanche also helped establish a nearly $2 billion slush fund that rewards President Trump’s allies, including violent criminals who attacked cops on January 6. And he has withheld critical information related to Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes at Zorro Ranch by refusing to provide full, unredacted investigative records from the Department of Justice to New Mexico law enforcement authorities. Time and again, Mr. Blanche has put politics and personal loyalty ahead of justice.

“The Attorney General’s job is to uphold the rule of law, deliver on public safety, and ensure that justice is applied fairly and independently. The American people deserve an Attorney General they can trust to do that. Todd Blanche has made it abundantly clear that he is not that person.”

Senator Ben Ray Luján, a Democrat, issued this statement:

“The Attorney General’s duty is to uphold the rule of law, defend the Constitution, and ensure that justice is applied fairly and equally to every American. Todd Blanche’s record makes it clear that he cannot carry out those responsibilities independently of President Trump.
“The survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s horrific crimes — and the American people — deserve transparency and accountability, not continued efforts to withhold information or shield those in positions of power. Under Todd Blanche’s leadership, the DOJ will continue putting President Trump’s personal and political interests ahead of justice and accountability for victims.
“Todd Blanche’s confirmation will only further erode public trust in one of our nation’s most important institutions. I will continue fighting to protect the independence of the DOJ and ensure that no one is above the law.”

OU football vs New Mexico TV channel, odds, scouting report for Sooners-Lobos

NORMAN — Oklahoma will look to bounce back from its road loss to Michigan when it hosts New Mexico on Saturday.

The No. 24-ranked Sooners and Lobos will kick at 6:30 p.m. Saturday inside Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Fresh off an offseason of hopeful optimism, OU’s (1-1) offense reverted back to some of its former ways. Quarterback John Mateer struggled mightily with accuracy and the Sooners shied away from some of the new wrinkles they showed against UTEP in Week 1.

Meanwhile, New Mexico (2-0) dominated Mercyhurst, 70-7. The Lobos, led by hot coaching commodity Jason Eck, won nine games last season and are viewed as one of the best Group of Six teams in the country.

Here’s a look at what you need to know about Saturday’s game:

Scouting New Mexico

Record: 2-0

Best player: If quarterback Jack Layne hadn’t suffered an injury, he’d be a major topic of conversation this week. But with Layne out, the Lobos have relied a lot on running back Scottie Humphrey. Across New Mexico’s first two games, Humphrey has rushed 28 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns.

The case for New Mexico: Michigan had a perfect plan — offensively and defensively — against OU. The Wolverines were conservative offensively and waited for Mateer and the Sooners’ offense to make a mistake. If Mateer doesn’t improve fast, it could be a long day. Eck is a well-respected coach and will have his team ready to play.

The case for OU: Despite the disappointing offensive performance against Michigan, the Sooners are the much more talented team. OU’s defense should give the Lobos offense fits. Sooners offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle will likely lean more on a run game that has looked solid through two games.

‘Bows get first win of 2026, downing New Mexico State 29-19

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Univeristy of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are winless no more after earning their first win of 2026 against New Mexico State University Saturday.

The ‘Bows downed the Aggies 29-19 to break their two-game losing streak and avoid going 0-3 into their first bye week.

“We didn’t want to go 0-3,” UH Head Coach Timmy Chang said. “Going into a bye week and not having had a win and all that, that was the last-case scenario.”

Chang said they’ll continue to work on the details to get better into the bye week and for the rest of the season.

“All the details we continue to harp on. It’s going to show up in all the games we play,” he said. “I do like what I see out there, growth. Having this win really helps.”

‘Bows quarterback Micah Alejado completed 33 of 45 passes and had over 346 passing yards, his sixth 300-plus passing performance of his career.

UH scored early to start the first half with a touchdown from running back DeVon Rice, followed by a field goal from Sean Olvera-Harle. Rice then hurdled into the end zone, 13-0.

The ‘Bows defense forced a fumble on the Aggies’ first possession after Trey Hedden stripped the ball and Jamih Otis recovered at UH’s 36.

The Aggies picked up 13 while the ‘Bows got another field goal to end the half, 19-13.

During the third, Alejado took a hard hit from the Aggies, resulting in an 84-yard fumble return. A missed extra point, blocked by UH, tied the game at 19 all.

Alejado stayed in the game and Olvera-Harle kicked another field goal to retake the lead, 22-19.

With under six minutes to go, on fourth and five in the red zone, Tama Uiliata lined up at quarterback and threw to Frank Abreu for a touchdown plus extra point gave UH a 10-point lead, 29-19.

The UH defense held up again, with Otis intercepting NMSU with less than four minutes of play to seal the win.

Uiliata finished the night with a career-high 10 receptions for 107 yards and a 7-yard touchdown pass.

The former Waipahu High School quarterback said he missed playing quarterback every now and then.

“I heard the call, and it’s big having Coach Chang, the whole offense, having that trust in me. Go out there and execute. But being back there feels good,” Uiliata said.

The ‘Bows now head into a bye week before heading on the road to resume the Mountain West schedule, set to take on Wyoming.
