Photographer Shocked to See Northern Lights from Southern California
A photographer was shocked to seize the northern lights as far south as she was in Dying Valley, California.
Shari Hunt was out on the Mesquite Flat Dunes making an attempt to shoot photos of the Milky Method Galaxy along with her good friend Kathy Chassie.
“As a result of storm in California, it had been principally cloudy all the journey,” Hunt tells PetaPixel. “This was our final likelihood to {photograph} the evening sky with little clouds on the horizon.”
After giving up on imaging the Milky Method Galaxy, Hunt determined to level her lens elsewhere within the evening sky to see what else was happening.
“I pointed my digital camera north and took a shot,” she explains. “Instantly, I noticed the again of the digital camera and I assumed I will need to have left it on auto white steadiness as the colours, which I initially thought was simply airglow, have been too insane.
“I shot once more and noticed pillar-like constructions. I requested my good friend Kathy to test it out — as I actually thought one thing was up with my digital camera. We have been shocked and instantly checked the aurora maps.
“Kathy shoots in Maine fairly a bit and is extra aware of the auroras. As I look again on my pictures, I can see the motion of the lights. I’ve by no means seen them earlier than and was even planning a visit to do that for subsequent 12 months whereas the solar is on this cycle. For sure, we have been stoked.”
Hunt caught gorgeous purples and mellow greens dancing above the horizon with the arch of the Milky Method above.

The phenomenon is being pinned on robust photo voltaic winds with southern England additionally being bathed within the aurora lights earlier this week.
