Authorities search for inmate who walked away from Los Angeles facility

Authorities are looking for an inmate who walked away from a correctional facility in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Carlos Montes, 30, walked away from the Male Group Reentry Program (MCRP) round 4:30 p.m., in keeping with the California Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Brokers had been alerted after receiving notification of an alarm on Montes’ monitoring machine. Employees members searched the power, however the man was nowhere to be discovered.

Montes is described as a Hispanic man who stands 5 toes 8 inches tall and weighs 164 kilos. He has brown hair and brown eyes and was final seen sporting a burgundy shirt and jean shorts.

He was serving a five-year sentence for second-degree theft and evading or trying to evade a peace officer whereas driving recklessly, authorities stated.

Montes was admitted into the correctional facility on Feb. 14, 2022.

“The MCRP permits eligible people dedicated to state jail to serve the top of their sentences within the reentry facility that gives packages and instruments essential to transition from custody to neighborhood,” officers stated. “It’s a voluntary program for males who’ve as much as two years, however a minimum of 60 days, left to serve. This system hyperlinks contributors to a spread of community-based rehabilitative providers that help with substance use issues, psychological well being care, medical care, employment, schooling, housing, household reunification and social help.”

Anybody who sees Montes or has data of his whereabouts is requested to contact legislation enforcement or name 911.

Teenage boy shot dead in South Los Angeles

Authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a teenage boy Monday in South Los Angeles.  

The fatal incident, according to a LASD news release, unfolded just before 4 p.m. in the 10800 block of Western Avenue, near the intersection of West 108th Street on the border of L.A.’s Westmont and Gramercy Park neighborhoods.  

When deputies arrived at the scene, they witnessed a large group of juveniles dispersing. The teen was found lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, LASD said in an update.

Footage of the scene captured by Sky5 showed a heavy presence of police, along with crews from the L.A. County Fire Department at the intersection. The area was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape, including the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store.  

There are several schools in the area, though it’s unknown if the teen was a student at any of them.

Investigators say there were multiple fights that occurred prior to the shooting, and that a “person of interest” was detained.

So far, authorities have not released any information on the victim.

Worker crushed to death by forklift in Los Angeles

A worker died when he was crushed by a forklift in Los Angeles’ Bel Air neighborhood on Monday, officials said.

The accident occurred at about 1 p.m. at a construction site between homes in the 900 block of North Moraga Drive, where L.A. city firefighters responded to reports of a person trapped under a forklift carrying steel rebar.

Crews determined the man was “beyond medical help” and had succumbed to his injuries, LAFD said.

Sky5 aerial footage showed firefighters attempting to secure and stabilize the scene to assist the Medical Examiner in recovering the worker’s body.

No other injuries were reported.

The worker’s identity was not immediately released.

Deadly crash shuts down all but one lane on 101 Freeway in Los Angeles 

Drivers on a busy stretch of the 101 Freeway had their commutes heavily impacted by a deadly crash on Monday morning. 

Preliminary information indicates the crash took place around 5:20 a.m. on the northbound side of the 101 at Lankershim Boulevard in Studio City. 

Video from Sky5 shows multiple vehicles that had smashed into a truck carrying porta potties.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities confirmed, and according to KTLA 5 traffic reporter Ginger Chan, multiple victims were transported to nearby hospitals.

First responders on the scene quickly blocked off all but one lane for the investigation, and a SigAlert was issued for the affected stretch of roadway that could possibly last until 7:30 a.m., Ginger said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
