Florida man, 78, shoots and kills neighbor who was ‘trimming tree limbs’ along property line: police

A 78-year-old Florida man is facing a second-degree murder charge Monday after he allegedly shot and killed his neighbor who was “trimming trees over his property line,” police say.

The incident involving Edward Druzolowski of DeLeon Springs happened around 7:13 p.m. Sunday, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

“The victim, 42-year-old Brian Ford, was trimming tree limbs along the fence line… when Druzolowski confronted him about being on his property,” the sheriff’s office said. “Druzolowski told detectives he threatened to shoot Ford, and when Ford didn’t leave, he shot him.”

The first two deputies who arrived on scene attempted life-saving measures but Ford ultimately was pronounced deceased.

“Sad news to report tonight: Volusia sheriff’s detectives are investigating a fatal shooting between neighbors in DeLeon Springs,” the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said in an initial post on Facebook.

Jail records viewed by Fox News Digital on Monday indicated that Druzolowski remained held without bond.

He is set to make his first court appearance on Monday, Fox35 Orlando reports.

Elsewhere in Florida over the weekend, a 14-year-old boy was arrested in Riverview on Saturday after he allegedly shot and killed his mother and left his mother’s boyfriend with multiple gunshot wounds, according to officials.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received numerous 911 calls just after 4 p.m. on Saturday regarding an incident in the Summerfield subdivision, Sheriff Chad Chronister said at a press conference.

“The scene behind me is one that nightmares are made of,” Chronister said. “And that is extremely heartbreaking.”

Deputies responded to the scene and found a 14-year-old boy who allegedly pointed a firearm at his own head at least six times, threatening to take his own life. A 16-minute negotiation ensued, and deputies fired a non-lethal projectile at the boy, so he would not reach for the gun again. He was then taken into custody.

Chronister said deputies then responded to a call about a man who had fled his house after having been shot five times, sustaining gunshot wounds to the lower torso, hands and face. The man was identified as the boyfriend of the suspect’s mother.

Florida deputy who was once paralyzed walks into his retirement party

After a freak accident left him paralyzed, a Florida officer walked into retirement — literally one step at a time.

Over two years ago, Master Deputy Harold “Hal” Davis of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) fell from a ladder while doing yard work at his home, leaving him unable to walk, officials with the OCSO posted on X.

“Doctors told Master Deputy Hal Davis he may never walk again. Today he stepped into his retirement party,” the post said.

Davis served on the force with the OCSO for 17 years but spent a total of 32 years in law enforcement.

Since his fall, Davis has been using a wheelchair, but throughout his recovery, he “was determined to walk again and finish his career with OCSO,” according to the post.

Despite the accident, which left Davis with a severe spinal cord injury and unable to breathe as his wife administered CPR, he has had a strong recovery, Fox 10 Phoenix reported.

The OCSO noted that Davis served Orange County in a variety of ways, including as a court security deputy and as part of the court security response team.

Davis also defied the odds in March 2023 by walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding, a dream he thought had been shattered after his accident, according to Fox Television Stations.

Davis and his wife, Cynthia, have been keeping their friends updated on his recovery journey through a GoFundMe account.

Davis’ retirement ceremony took place Aug. 30 and was welcomed by his family and fellow officers with joyous applause.

Apalachee High School's district to ramp up security as other students prepare to head back

Students in Barrow County, Georgia will return to school next week with “extra support and security, including more law enforcement” in the wake of the Apalachee High School shooting, the district’s superintendent says.

In a message sent out to parents, Dallas LeDuff says classes “will resume for all students, except for those at Apalachee High School, on Tuesday, Sep. 10.

“We believe we need to be together as soon as possible to move forward and to provide some sense of familiarity for our students,” he said. “For our Apalachee families, we will send a message to you separately with information about returning.”

“We know these are challenging times, and we are here for you,” LeDuff added. “We will have extra support and security, including more law enforcement, at each of our schools.”

The announcement comes just days after a suspected student shooter opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder on Wednesday, killing four and injuring nine others.

“We are in this together, and as a community, we will continue to care for one another,” LeDuff also said in his message.

The four who are deceased following the shooting have been identified as students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and math teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie.

Last night, hundreds of people gathered for a vigil to honor the victims, according to Fox5 Atlanta.

“There has never been a more important moment for community than now. The best and most important thing for us to do is to be here for one another,” Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., was quoted as saying.

Prosecutor of first parents charged in son's school shooting advises Georgia DA to 'have courage'

Prosecutor of first parents charged in son's school shooting advises Georgia DA to 'have courage'

The prosecutor who made history arguing the first case against the parents of a child charged with a mass shooting has given a word of advice to the Georgia high school shooting’s prosecutor.

Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald tried the case of the Oxford High School shooter, Ethan Robert Crumbley, in 2021. Crumbley’s parents had given him the gun he would later use to kill four students and injure seven others in November of that year, including a teacher.

ALLEGED GEORGIA SHOOTER’S FATHER SAID SON WAS BULLIED AT SCHOOL, CALLED ‘GAY’ BY CLASSMATES: ‘VERY DIFFICULT’

The Oxford High School shooting echoes the Apalachee High School shooting which occurred on Wednesday. 14-year-old alleged shooter Colt Gray’s father, Colin, had given his son the rifle he used to kill four people and injure nine more.

McDonald successfully convicted Jennifer and James Crumbley, Ethan’s parents, in connection with the Oxford High School shooting.

“It’s not easy to obtain a conviction on [this set of] facts,” said McDonald to FOX 2 Detroit. “It’s a gross negligence standard for involuntary manslaughter in Michigan, and it shouldn’t be easy. It should be rare – very rare.”

The prosecutor also stated that not everyone agrees that parents should be held accountable for their children’s actions in court.

“It’s not lost on me that there was not a wave of support or acceptance of the charges when they were announced,” McDonald said to FOX 2 Detroit.

“But I knew looking at all the evidence that we had, that is not released to the public, I knew that you don’t get to walk away from that sort of egregious behavior when it was reasonably foreseeable that your kid was going to hurt himself or somebody else.”

McDonald’s main advice to the prosecutors involved in the Apalachee shooting trials against Colt and Colin Gray is to “do the right thing and have courage.”

Of the four who died in Wednesday’s shooting, two were students and two were teachers at Apalachee High School.

Colt Gray is being tried as an adult on four charges of felony murder. 54-year-old father Colin Gray has been charged on four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children.

Georgia is one of 42 states, including Washington, D.C., which hold parents responsible for the criminal actions of their children.
