South Carolina Football: Major Gamecock target sets decision date
The South Carolina football program is off to one of its best-ever recruiting starts in the class of 2024, and they have a chance for things to get even better. The month of June has been loaded with visitors (both official and unofficial) to campus, and several players have made commitments to Shane Beamer and the Gamecock football staff.
One of these official visitors was 4-star safety Malcolm Ziglar. The North Carolina native visited Columbia two weeks ago. Ziglar recently announced a decision date via his personal Twitter account.
Ziglar will be announcing his decision on July 17th, and he will be deciding between 8 finalists. South Carolina, Clemson, Notre Dame, North Carolina, East Carolina, Penn State, Kentucky, and Appalachian State are the top suitors for Ziglar, and the Gamecocks, Tar Heels, and Fighting Irish appear to be his most likely destinations.
Ziglar was a recent riser in the recruiting industry as he has picked up the majority of his big-time offers in the last several months. He took an official visit to South Carolina the weekend of June 9th, went to Notre Dame last weekend, and will be on campus at the University of North Carolina this weekend. At 6’2″ and 200 pounds, he could contribute early wherever he ends up playing.
Ziglar is not the only highly-rated defensive back on the Gamecocks’ recruiting board, however. 4-star Jalewis Solomon is being recruited as a defensive back, and South Carolina is viewed as being in a two-team battle with Florida State for his services. Kaj Sanders is also a 4-star DB and has set his decision date for the end of July.
Kam Mikell is a 4-star athlete who is being recruited as a defensive back by both South Carolina football and the Georgia Bulldogs. Kaleb Harris is a 3-star safety who is high on the Gamecocks, as well. David Bucey (3-star athlete) will be on campus this weekend and is a high school linebacker who will likely shift to the secondary in college.
