SC officials: 1 firefighter killed, 6 taken to hospital after 3-alarm fire

COLUMBIA, S.C. — One firefighter is dead, and six other crew members were taken to a hospital Friday in a three-alarm blaze at the Tropical Ridge apartments in Columbia, South Carolina, ABC affiliate WOLO reported.

Fire officials told WOLO they rescued “several people” from the burning building. Nineteen people, including some who were also taken to a hospital, were displaced.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, and the family of the loved ones of James Muller. We will continue working with the Columbia-Richland Fire Department to fully investigate this fire,” the coroner said in a statement.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
