One killed, another hurt when motorcycle collided with box truck, SC cops say

One person was killed and another was hurt Saturday when a motorcycle and box truck crashed into each other, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 4 p.m. in Laurens County, Lance Cpl. Nick Pye said.

A 2010 Harley-Davidson was driving north on South Frontage Road, and near the intersection with Gnatt Trail when it hit a southbound 2006 Freightliner box truck that was turning left into a private driveway, according to Pye.

There were two riders on the motorcycle, a driver who was killed and a passenger who was taken to an area hospital, Pye said.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the Harley-Davidson driver.

Further information on the passenger’s condition was not available.

There was no word if either motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet.

Pye said the box truck driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

The crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through June 4, at least 425 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, and 46 involved motorcycles, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least eight people have died in Laurens County crashes in 2023, according to DPS data. Last year, 24 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
