Spotty storms Saturday before hotter weather returns to Kentucky

We are starting off this Saturday with plenty of clouds across the area, but we are seeing a few peeks of sunshine here and there. That mix of sun and clouds will continue through the rest of the morning and into the early afternoon before our attention turns to the chance for a few showers and thunderstorms later today.

Isolated Storms Possible This Afternoon

As temperatures warm through the afternoon, we will have enough instability around for isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop. Not everyone will see rain today, with coverage expected to remain fairly limited, but keep the rain gear nearby if you have outdoor plans.

The better opportunity for storms looks to be across southern Kentucky, particularly south of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass parkways. Any storms that develop will likely be slow-moving and capable of producing torrential downpours, gusty winds and frequent lightning.

Outside of the rain chances, it will be another warm and humid afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s, with a few locations potentially getting close to 90 degrees.

Storms Fade Away This Evening

Any showers and thunderstorms that develop this afternoon should gradually begin to fizzle out as we head through the evening and lose the daytime heating that helped fuel them.

That should leave us with a quieter night across central and eastern Kentucky. Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy at times, with temperatures only dropping into the upper 60s and lower 70s by Sunday morning. With plenty of moisture still around, it will continue to feel warm and muggy overnight.

Hotter Weather Returns Sunday

Sunday looks considerably quieter for most of the area as we begin a stretch of drier and hotter weather.

We should see more sunshine throughout the day, helping temperatures quickly climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s by Sunday afternoon. Humidity will remain noticeable, with dew points in the lower to middle 70s making it feel even hotter. Heat index values could reach the middle and upper 90s during the hottest part of the afternoon.

There is still a very isolated chance for a shower or thunderstorm, especially across our northeastern communities, but the overwhelming majority of us should remain dry.

Heat Builds Into Early Next Week

The hotter weather will stick around as we begin the new workweek. Monday looks mostly dry with plenty of sunshine and afternoon temperatures once again reaching the lower 90s.

Tuesday should start on a similar note, with temperatures once again climbing into the lower 90s. Most of the day currently looks dry, but changes will begin arriving later Tuesday as our overall weather pattern becomes more active.

Storm Chances Increase Midweek

By the middle and latter portions of next week, our weather pattern could become much more unsettled.

Multiple days of shower and storm opportunities for clusters of showers and thunderstorms are possible from late Tuesday through the end of the workweek.

With additional clouds and rain chances around, temperatures should back down slightly by Wednesday through Friday, with afternoon highs generally returning to the upper 80s.

For now, enjoy the quieter and hotter stretch Sunday through the first part of next week!

Big Blue Preview: Kentucky vs. Alabama

Kentucky opens Southeastern Conference play on Saturday, hosting No. 12 Alabama at Kroger Field (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).

The Cats opened the season, and the Will Stein Era, with a 45-13 win over Youngstown State on Sept. 5. Quarterback Kenny Minchey, making his first career start after transferring from Notre Dame, threw for 301 yards and four touchdowns in the win. UK had 506 yards of total offense in the win.

Alabama beat East Carolina 48-10 in its season opener last weekend in Tuscaloosa. Quarterback Keelon Russell had a big game for the Tide, passing for 256 yards and rushing for 86 more and a touchdown.

Kentucky and Alabama have not met on the gridiron since 2020. One of UK’s most memorable victories came in 1997 when Tim Couch connected with Craig Yeast for a touchdown in overtime to lift the Cats past the Tide 40-34. Couch and Yeast will serve as honorary captains for Saturday’s game.

Cat Scratches: Stein, Cats Preparing for SEC Opener Against Alabama

Kentucky head coach Will Stein earned his first career win on Saturday as his Cats topped Youngstown State. Now, Stein will coach his first Southeastern Conference game as Kentucky hosts Alabama this weekend.

The SEC opener is obviously a big step up in competition for the Cats, but Stein and his staff are trying to keep things simple for the UK players.

Kentucky-Alabama Series History

• Kentucky will take on Alabama on Saturday in both teams’ 2026 Southeastern Conference opener.
• The Wildcats are 2-39-1 all-time versus Alabama, including 2-15 in Lexington.
• Alabama has won seven consecutive meetings in the series.
• UK’s last win the series was a 40-34 overtime victory in 1997 engineered by Tim Couch and Craig Yeast. Couch hit Yeast with a 26-yard touchdown pass for the game winning score in OT. The duo will serve as honorary captains for Saturday’s game.

Kentucky vs. Alabama Injury Report: Michael Carroll remains doubtful

We are only two days removed from Kentucky Football hosting the Alabama Crimson Tide as Will Stein tries to make some major noise in only his second game as head coach. The BBN is rocking, and many are believing an upset could happen at Kroger Field on Saturday. That will take a healthy roster, and fortunately for the Cats, it looks like they will have that.

When the first injury report dropped Wednesday, Kentucky got great news, as four major pieces of this team did not appear on the report: Jovante Barnes, Teryhon Nichols, Hasaan Sykes, and Malachi Wood. That means we should see them take the field for the Cats on Saturday.

Several reserves still appear on the report that weren’t expected to play much, including backup offensive lineman Jay Clark, who has already been ruled out.

For the Crimson Tide, if you missed it yesterday, they will be without wideout Noah Rogers. Starting offensive lineman Michael Carroll also remains doubtful. This would be a major blow for the Tide’s o-line in their first road game.

Not much movement tonight. Now, we wait until Friday to see if we get any surprise names.
