JONESBORO, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Clayton County inmate has died after being found unresponsive at the end of a four-hour transport to an Albany rehabilitation center.

Joseph Singleton, 39, had been in jail for about two years, according to his wife Trisha Singleton.

Trisha told Atlanta News First that as part of his probation, Joseph would go to Bainbridge Rehabilitation Center. That would be his final step before being released.

However, he never got that chance.

“When you’re in custody, it’s meant to protect yourself and others. And he wasn’t protected,” said Trisha. “I got a call Monday afternoon, around 1 or 2, telling me that he had had an episode on the bus, the transport bus, and that he was on life support.”

Trisha said she was told, based on findings from CT scans, at some point during the drive, he had stopped breathing. They did not realize it until they arrived at the facility when he was found unresponsive in the bus. Joseph was declared brain dead.

“He wanted to be able to help people, even though he struggled to help himself,” Trisha said.

Trisha said her husband went to jail because of a probation violation, which stemmed from an alleged car break-in. After struggling with his addiction, she said this was going to be his second chance.

“It can’t ever be made right again. Better choices can’t happen. Different choices can’t happen. Now he doesn’t have that option,” she said.

Trisha said she wanted people to know Joseph was not just an inmate number. He was a husband and a father of six.

“(Our son) Daniel graduates next month, and he was so mad that his daddy wouldn’t be able to see him graduate. He had already promised that he would see him in June for his birthday. So it’s hit them hard,” Trisha tearfully said. “I think different policies need to be implemented. Or, I don’t even know if they do have a policy, and it’s just not being followed.”

Trisha said she wants answers to her long list of questions, including whether or not there were other inmates on the bus, if they stopped at any point, or if there was video surveillance.

“I want to have justice. I want someone to be responsible because they were responsible for him.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will be performing the autopsy, and the Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting the death investigation.

Atlanta News First reached out to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. They did not return our request for comment.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – Video has now been released of the arrest in Gwinnett County of the Grammy-nominated rapper from Memphis who goes by the name GloRilla.

GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria Hallelujah Woods, was arrested on April 16 after she was pulled over near Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Suwanee Walk Avenue.

Woods was initially pulled over after she stopped to make a U-turn at a solid red light around 4 a.m.

During the traffic stop, GloRilla told the officer she was leaving a venue in Midtown Atlanta and was on her way home. 

At one point, GloRilla asked the officer if they knew who she was.

“Do you know who I am?” Woods asked.

“No, I do not,” the officer can be heard responding.

“Oh,” Woods replied. “You’ve never heard of me, though. You don’t know who I am?”

“Enlighten me on who you are,” the officer requests.

“No, because you still gonna pick on me. It don’t matter who I am,” Woods replied.

During the field sobriety tests, Woods’ right breast came out of her bikini-style top, prompting the officer to instruct her to cover up.

After apparently failing the tests, officers made GloRilla remove her jewelry, placed her in handcuffs, and placed her in the back of a patrol car. At that point, she asks the officers if she can sue them if she was arrested for no reason. 

GloRilla was charged with driving under the influence, consuming an alcoholic beverage or possessing an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Former President Donald Trump leads President Biden in two battleground states and is tied with the incumbent in two others, according to a new 2024 general election poll. 

Trump, 77, is up on Biden, 81, in Michigan and Georgia, a Fox News survey of registered voters released Thursday shows. 

In a head-to-head matchup, the presumptive Republican nominee received 49% support in Michigan compared to the president’s 46% backing. 

With third-party candidates included, Trump’s lead in the Wolverine State is trimmed down to a 42%-40% advantage.

In Georgia, where Trump has been charged with interfering in the state’s 2020 election results, he leads Biden by a 6-point margin head-to-head of 51% to 45%.

In a five-way race, the former president’s lead increased by a point, 46%-39%. 

The contests are even closer in Wisconsin and Biden’s home state of Pennsylvania. 

With just the two in the ring, both candidates are tied with 48% support each in Pennsylvania. 

Trump comes out on top of Biden in the Keystone State with third-party candidates in play, 44% to 42%. 

Biden and his predecessor are also tied in Wisconsin, head-to-head, with 48% support each. 

However, the president leads Trump in a five-way race, 43% to 41%. 

The results in each state were within the poll’s margin of error. 

Every third-party candidate – Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Jill Stein and Cornel West – polled below 10% in all four states, with RFK Jr., doing the best, garnering support between 7%-9% in each state.

The poll also found that despite more voters disapproving of Biden’s job in the White House – by at least 10 points in all four states – the president outperforms his approval rating by at least 3 points in a two-way matchup with Trump. 

Voters in each state also trust Trump more the Biden on issues related to immigration and the economy, whereas Biden has the edge on matters concerning election integrity and healthcare, according to the poll.

When it comes to abortion, Biden has more trust in Michigan (+5), Pennsylvania (+10) and Wisconsin (+9), while Trump holds a slim 2-point edge in Georgia. 

All four states went for Biden over Trump in 2020.
