Delaware State Police arrested 66-year-old Henry Williams, of Bridgeville, Delaware, for selling a stolen car following a vehicle theft investigation that began last week in Bridgeville.

On April 12, 2024, at approximately 11:32 a.m., troopers investigated a report of a vehicle theft from a property on the 4600 block of Dublin Hill Road in Bridgeville. Troopers learned the victim’s gray 2004 Ford Taurus had been parked on his friend’s property with the friend’s permission since 2021. On April 11, 2024, the victim observed the car was no longer on the property, and his friend, identified as Henry Williams, was unable to provide the whereabouts of the car. Through investigative means, Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Detectives discovered Williams falsely claimed to be the owner of the Taurus and sold it to a car dealer in Laurel on April 10, 2024. Subsequently, detectives obtained a warrant for Williams’ arrest.

On April 17, 2024, Williams turned himself in at Troop 5, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and released on his own recognizance.

• Theft by False Pretense
• Falsifying Business Records

100 Years Ago, 1924: When the next State legislature convenes, Rep. Walter H. Craig of this city will introduce a bill providing for the removal of bodies in the Friends’ Burying Ground on the west side of Edgmont Avenue, just north of Sixth Street. The removals will be confided to a distance of 15 feet back, from the present building line of the avenue, this being the amount of ground desired by the city toward carrying out the future plan of widening Edgmont Avenue from Sixth Street to Gray, or 26th, Street.

75 Years Ago, 1949: Chester Zoning Board of Appeals today deferred decision on the plans of Congregation Mispallelim to erect a $60,000 synagogue. The organization at a hearing in city hall sought a waiver to erect the building on the south side of Seventh Street, between Park and Fulton streets. Although Building Inspector James A. Devlin was unable to appear, he was reported as having withheld a permit because sufficient open areas weren’t provided at the front and sides of the structure.

50 Years Ago, 1974: The Delaware County Prison Board on Wednesday night ordered the immediate installation of barbed wire and additional exterior lighting at the county’s minimum security prison facility in Thornbury. The action came in apparent reaction to the latest escape from the prison by seven inmates last Friday night. Earlier Wednesday at the weekly meeting of the county commissioners, in the Media Courthouse, Mrs. Claire Stewart of Aston wanted to know by the barbed wire hadn’t been installed after being delivered to a prison warehouse two years ago.

25 Years Ago, 1999: If a Ridley Township Battle of the Bulge veteran has his way, another war monument will be erected on the Mall in Washington, D.C. Dan Iannelli has been lobbying local lawmakers about the National World War II Memorial — enough to get notice from state Rep. Nicholas Micozzie, R-163. Micozzie, in turn, won state House approval for a $1.5 million donation to the project. The issue is now before the state Senate.

10 Years Ago, 2014: The parents of one of the biggest baby’s born in Delaware County Memorial Hospital in recent memory now knows the answer to the question, “Where’s Waldo?” Brian and Danielle Dwyer, of the Fishtown section of Philadelphia, were both Where’s Waldo? book fans in their youth and decided that was the perfect name for their first born child. Waldo James Mysterious Dwyer was born 10:50 p.m. Monday (4-14-14) weighing in at 13 pounds, 8 ounces.

PHILADELPHIA – No matter if you’re driving in the Philly Metro and beyond, South Jersey, or Delaware, drivers are getting hit hard at the pump.

“Oh my God they are outrageous,” said Brittaney White, from Delaware. 

According to AAA, the average price per gallon of regular gas in Pennsylvania a month ago was $3.59, it’s now 16 cents more at $3.75.

“They are definitely outrageous, pretty high, used to be a lot cheaper, but can’t really do much about it,” said Dillon Harding, from Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, in Delaware, it jumped 17 cents from $3.29 to $3.46.

“$3.00, $3.19 was kind of reasonable, now it’s just getting out of hand, it seems like once it’s getting warm outside the prices went up sky high,” said White.

According to AAA, there are three major reasons behind why the increasing demand of gas is high, crude oil prices are high because of tensions overseas and in the Middle East, but the biggest factor is the changing in the blend of gas from the winter to a summer blend. 

“That switchover to summer blended gasoline is mandated by the EPA, reason being, this blend, which is more expensive to produce, helps cut down on what we used to call smog, that damaging exhaust fumes that go into the air, damage the ozone layer,” said Jana Tidwell, of AAA Public Affairs.

AAA officials say this blend change and increase happens every year and tends to hopefully drop as we get closer to summer. 

“Gas prices are outrageous right now, it’s like, we are getting killed at the pump, I already got to pay insurance, it’s like when do I get a break on this thing,” said Eric Pratt, from New Jersey.

For the time being, Pratt will not be getting a break at the pump, even in his hometown of New Jersey, the spot many travelers go to for cheaper gas.

“You’re breaking even coming over here trying to get gas now, but ayee to tell you the truth, I just got back from LA, gas prices are pretty okay here,” said Pratt. 

AAA says to conserve gas, you should empty out your vehicle trunk, because the lighter the vehicle the less gas used and for drivers to drive the speed limit.
