Augustan gets prison for killing sister while playing with gun
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – An Augusta 18-year-old was sentenced to jail this week after pleading responsible in his sister’s demise, in accordance with prosecutors.
Tyquan Dukes by accident shot his sister Meshela Dukes, 18, within the head as he was enjoying with a gun on Sept. 22, 2021, at a residence within the 1500 block of Central Avenue, in accordance with authorities.
He was quickly arrested and booked into Richmond County jail on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and possession of firearm or knife throughout a criminal offense.
On Monday, he pleaded responsible to these crimes, expressing regret.
Underneath his sentencing as a primary offender, Dukes obtained 9 years in jail adopted by six years of probation.

Grand openings for multiple stores in Augusta
Also opening their doors this week, America’s Thrift Stores announcing a new location in Augusta on Bobby Jones Expressway. During the event, event organizers will be handing out coffee and kona ice. Customers will also get the chance to participate in a $250 gift card giveaway.

Augusta Fire Department breaks ground for new station
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Augusta Fire Department held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fire Station 3 on Wednesday.
The new station is located at 2075 Powell Road.
This event marks the beginning of the construction process for a state-of-the-art facility aimed at enhancing emergency response capabilities and public safety infrastructure.

Augusta leaders get a look at Brigham Community Center renovations
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – We’re getting a look at renovations happening over at the Henry Brigham Community Center.
On Wednesday, Augusta Department of Parks and Recreation staff took city leaders on a tour for all of the progress.
Back in 2022, the center closed to start the multimillion dollar project.
You can expect a brand-new kitchen, dance hall, weight room, locker rooms and sauna and steam.
The new gym can hold up to 500 people.
An e-sports room is coming too.
The original projected price was $8.3 million, and it came in slightly over budget at $8.6 million to $8.7 million.
