ATLANTA – The flight crew of a Delta flight from Savannah declared an emergency on Thursday morning due to a “flap disagree,” according to a spokesperson for Delta Air Lines.

The Boeing 757-200 departed Savannah at 8:20 a.m. and safely landed in Atlanta at 9:35 a.m. The crew declared the emergency with ATC (Air Traffic Command) to ensure priority handling, and the flight proceeded to the gate routinely, arriving one minute ahead of schedule. No injuries were reported. 

A flap disagree is an uncommon occurrence involving a misalignment of some of the flaps on an aircraft. Delta emphasized that such events are part of extensive flight crew training to manage safely.

Boeing airplanes have faced a series of highly-publicized incidents recently, including a door blowing out of a Boeing 737 Max on Jan. 5 while flying over Portland, Oregon. 

On Jan. 18, one of the engines on a 747 cargo plane operated by Atlas Air failed during takeoff from Miami. 

On Jan. 23, a Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 lost its nose tire while taxiing for takeoff in Atlanta. 

FULL LIST OF INCIDENTS 

A Boeing 777-200 operated by United Airlines lost a tire on takeoff on March 7, and a Boeing 787 operated by LATAM between Sydney, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand, went into a nosedive on March 11. 

On March 18, the windshield of an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 cracked as it was landing in Portland, Oregon. 

Additionally, on April 7, the engine cover on a Boeing 737-800 belonging to Southwest Airlines fell off after takeoff from Denver, Colorado.

Boeing is currently the focus of two Senate hearings examining allegations of deep-seated safety issues. 

According to whistleblowers, the company has been accused of cutting corners, ignoring problems, and threatening employees who speak up. 

A FAA report published in February found that many employees were unaware of how to report concerns or whom to report them to. It concluded that the company has not made sufficient strides in safety since the deadly 2018 and 2019 crashes that claimed 346 lives.

Boeing is also being investigated by the FAA, the Justice Department and the National Transportation Safety Board.

In other news, WalletHub has released its annual ranking of U.S. airlines for 2024. Delta was ranked as the 4th best airline on the list, praised for its reliability, low rates of cancelations and delays, as well as comfort and snack offerings.

The Atlanta Hawks season officially ended last night with a dismal performance in the play-in game vs the Bulls. It was an awful performance, even for a team that was very short-handed as the Hawks were. Now, one of the most crucial offseasons in recent memory for the Hawks will begin. 

Atlanta has plenty of decisions to make this offseason and there is a chance that this roster looks way different than it did this season. 

Here are the pivotal dates for the offseason for Atlanta. 

April 19th- Sacramento Kings Play-In Game vs Pelicans

This is big because if the Kings win the game, they will make the playoffs, meaning the Hawks will get their first-round selection. If New Orleans wins, Atlanta will have to wait until next season to see if it conveys (it will be top-12 protected next year). 

May 12th- NBA Draft Lottery

This is a big date for the Hawks. They are going to be in the Draft Lottery for the first time since the 2020 Draft. Going into the Lottery, Atlanta currently has the 10th best odds to land the No. 1 pick (3%) and a 13.9% chance to jump into the top four. Atlanta can pick as high as No. 1 or as low as No. 12. This is not a draft that is considered to be very strong, meaning the Hawks might benefit more from trading their pick if they were to take a jump up. 

May 12-19th- NBA Draft Combine

This will be a chance for the Hawks to some prospects up close. 

June 26th-27th: 2024 NBA Draft Draft

The first round and second round of the NBA Draft have now been split into two days. Atlanta will find out where they are picking on May 12th, the night of the draft lottery. 

June 29th

Atlanta has some decisions to make by this day. They must choose whether or not to exercise Garrison Matthews’s $2.2 million team option, they must figure out if they want to tender an $8.4 million dollar qualifying offer to Saddiq Bey, making him a restricted free agent, and they must decide whether or not to guarantee Bruno Fernando’s $2.7 million dollar contract.

The Chicago Bulls advanced to the second round of the NBA Play-In Tournament for the second consecutive year, cruising to a 131-116 victory against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night at the United Center.

The Bulls will face the Heat at 6 p.m. Friday in Miami with the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs on the line.

Coby White delivered a decisive performance after a breakout regular season, totaling 42 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two steals and zero turnovers. It was the highest-scoring night for White in an NBA game, but play-in tournament statistics don’t count.

Nikola Vučević supported White with 24 points and 12 rebounds and DeMar DeRozan added 22 points and nine assists.

Despite missing the final week of the season and being questionable as of Wednesday morning, Ayo Dosunmu (right quad bruise) and Andre Drummond (left ankle sprain) played. Dosunmu keyed in defensively to hold Trae Young to 4-for-12 shooting while scoring 19 points. Drummond played only 11 minutes but managed four rebounds and three blocks.

The Bulls toyed with a lead throughout the first half, but they flipped a switch in the third quarter, ripping off an 18-2 run highlighted by acrobatic moves to the basket from Dosunmu and White and a thunderous dunk from Javonte Green.

The Bulls will face the Heat in a rematch of last year’s play-in tournament matchup to determine which team advances to face the top-seeded Boston Celtics. The game will provide a decisive test for the Bulls — one that could be played without Heat star Jimmy Butler, who might have suffered an MCL injury in Wednesday’s loss to the Philadelphia 76ers that could sideline him indefinitely, according to The Athletic.

If the Bulls win in Miami, they will face the top-seeded Celtics in a Sunday matinee. It would be their first trip to the playoffs since the 2021-22 season, when they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 4-1 in a first-round series.
