Nebraska volleyball reveals matches to air on Nebraska Public Media

Nebraska volleyball’s broadcasting schedule revealed four additional matches that have been selected for TV broadcasts. The four matches will be televised on Nebraska Public Media (NPM).

NPM has been granted the rights to televise the Red-White Scrimmage on Aug. 16, which is to be held at Pinnacle Bank Arena. NPM will also televise three regular-season matches: Georgia Tech (Sept. 12), Rutgers (Sept. 25) and Illinois (Nov. 12).

The Huskers’ clash with Georgia Tech is part of a four-team tournament in Lincoln that also includes New Mexico and Baylor. The showdown with Rutgers kicks off the Big Ten portion of Nebraska’s season. Finally, the matchup against Illinois begins the Huskers’ final weekend of regular-season action before the Big Ten tournament.

All matches that are televised on Nebraska Public Media will also be streamed on B1G+. Start time for the Red-White Scrimmage on Aug. 16 is set for 3 p.m. CT.

Nebraska running back Mehki Nelson discusses explosive touchdown catch

Nebraska football running back Mehki Nelson talked about his touchdown catch and subsequent run that helped the team beat the Ohio Bobcats 49-21. He talked about the play after the game.

Nelson had an extremely productive day for the program. He had 10 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown while catching two passes for 65 yards and the touchdown in question. The 51-yard reception was his longest of the afternoon.

The play itself was a solid read from quarterback Anthony Colandrea. Nelson then evaded two Ohio defenders and showed off his speed to score. The touchdown put Nebraska ahead 35-21 after the extra point.

Nelson spoke to the media about the play following the game.

“Got out, there was no protection. Just did my little route and I saw (Anthony Colandrea’s) eyes so I knew the ball was coming to me. All I knew is that I had to make this catch. The rest was history after that. Just running, trying to get as many yards as I could, I broke free. I knew after I broke free I had to go score.”

Saturday’s game was a great showing for Nelson. It was also a solid showing for the entire running back room. The explosiveness and playmaking ability from that room were evident almost immediately, and the program may have something special building there.

Nebraska's largest union prepares for contract negotiations with the state

Nebraska’s largest union will begin contract negotiations with the state this week as a directive from Gov. Jim Pillen to cut spending looms overhead. Justin Hubly, executive director of the Nebraska Association of Public Employees, will serve as the union’s chief negotiator, representing about 8,000 state workers.
