INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Ivy Tech Community College on Friday opened a new biopharmaceutical lab.

Ivy Tech officials say the Biopharma Science & Technology Lab will facilitate hands-on learning experiences for students. The lab is north of downtown Indianapolis in the Illinois Fall Creek Center at 2535 N. Capitol Ave.

Officials say the new lab will launch or advance careers in biopharmaceutical manufacturing through customized education and training.

Stacy Atkinson, chancellor of Ivy Tech, said at a ribbon-cutting on Friday, “I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride and excitement for what this moment represents. The state-of-the-art lab behind me is not just a physical space. It’s a beacon of opportunity for our Ivy Tech students, your future employees. It represents our unwavering commitment in providing the highest quality of education and hands-on experience that will empower our students to thrive in the dynamic field of pharmaceutical manufacturing.”

The new lab is part of Eli Lilly and Co.’s $15 million investment in the community college system through 2028.

IMPD makes quick arrest after Thursday night shooting


INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man responsible for a Thursday night shooting was in custody Friday morning, Indianapolis police said.

IU Health Methodist Hospital called Indianapolis police around 11:30 p.m. after a man with gunshot wounds arrived at the emergency room.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers opened an investigation and quickly identified 53-year-old Gerald Stokes as a possible suspect.

Stokes was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, battery, battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.

Much cooler temperatures this weekend


INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Temperatures will be running 15-20° cooler than much of this past week.

This morning:

Storms have moved out, and the cold front is pushing through the state this morning. Temperatures are already slipping into the 40s in the northern portions of the state early this morning.

Friday:

Breezy conditions for the morning hours include gusts up to around 25 to 30 mph. Those winds will diminish as we get into the afternoon. Clouds will decrease for the afternoon with cooler temperatures. He will top out in the upper 50s and low 60s.

Friday night:

Clearing will continue as we had the overnight hours with quiet conditions. Overnight Lowe’s will dip down into the mid-40s.

Saturday:

Partly cloudy skies and cool temperatures for the day. Highs top out into the mid-50s.

Saturday night:

Clear skies overnight will allow for a cold temperatures overnight with frosty conditions around the central and northern portions of the state. Overnight Lows will fall to the mid-30s across central Indiana.

Sunday:

Sunday looks bright but cool, with sunshine and highs in the upper 50s.

8 day forecast:

Warmer temperatures are on the way for much of next week, returning to the 60s starting Monday. The only rain chance we have is Tuesday, with a system moving through when scattered showers and thunderstorms evolved across the state. The rest of the week looks pretty mild seasonally, so with eyes of the mid-60s through Friday of next week.
