‘Urgent’ Gravy Recall Issued By FDA The Day Before Thanksgiving
The FDA has issued an “urgent” recall of a single brand of jarred gravy just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
New York-based Seneca Foods Corporation is recalling mislabeled Hy-Vee Turkey gravy because it actually contains beef gravy. The gravy was sold only at Hy-Vee stores. The chain has locations in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
“This product could potentially contain a soy allergen, which is not declared on the label,” the FDA recall announcement said. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products, the FDA said in the recall notice issued Wednesday.
As of Wednesday, Seneca is not aware of any reports of illnesses related to this product, the FDA said.
The recall extends to the following labels and package sizes only:
Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy (12 oz glass jars)
UPC: 75450-03608
– Individual Lot Code On Lid:
A3CG162M A3CG192M
This recall impacts less than 1 percent of this particular product sold in Hy-Vee stores. Consumers with this product should return it for a full refund to the store where it was purchased.
