Illinois to vote on Vietnam Veterans Day resolution on 50th anniversary of troops withdrawn
CHICAGO (WLS) — Down in Springfield, the Home is predicted to vote on a decision, formally making Wednesday, March 29 “Welcome Residence Vietnam Veterans Day” in Illinois.
In the meantime, veterans and their households met alongside the Chicago Riverwalk Wednesday morning, commemorating this present day in historical past.
On the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Wacker Drive and Wabash Avenue, a wreath laying ceremony was held, honoring those that gave their lives to the US.
“And we had been the fortunate ones. We bought to come back residence. The names on that wall, that is why we do that right here,” veteran Kevin Calkins mentioned.
Wednesday marks the fiftieth anniversary of when the final fight troops had been withdrawn from Vietnam in 1973.
Greater than 58,000 members of the US Armed Forces misplaced their lives in Vietnam. Greater than 300,000 had been wounded.

Almost 3,000 of these killed in Vietnam had been from Illinois.

Every veteran took turns passing the microphone, saying the names of their fallen associates aloud.
“We will all relate in a sure approach, simply by being there, and it makes a distinction, retains us nearer collectively,” veteran Barron Buchunas mentioned.
In Springfield, the Home decision shall be voted on Wednesday.
