Filmmaker dream hampton’s new project is a meditation on Detroit

In her sleek, mournful new quick movie “Freshwater,”  dream hampton shares her childhood reminiscences of strolling downtown in Hart Plaza together with her grandmother and taking within the panoramic view of the Detroit River.

“And I simply keep in mind being on the river and searching at Windsor and her telling me that water by no means stops shifting — and the way profound that was to me,” says the multi-hyphenate artist from Detroit, who directed, wrote, co-produced and narrated the undertaking.

Port Huron dealership burglarized; Police search for trio of suspects

PORT HURON, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) — There was a mad dash for the keys as thieves were on the hunt at a Port Huron dealership, and it almost cost the business a $60,000 car.

For decades, the Cawood Honda dealership had never been broken into until Monday night.

“We had one car key that was out, that was actually in our service department, that they were going to bring in for a safety inspection in the morning,” said Ted Barrett, owner of Cawood Honda. “They [the thieves] found a place where they could climb under the gate at the fence, my guess is they climbed back out and got picked up.”

The trio scoured the business for nearly 15 minutes, causing damage. Video showed the suspects crouching down to make a getaway. Sadly, their movement didn’t trigger the motion sensors.

“We found out the next morning when they opened the dealership at 6 a.m., and the doors to the office were kicked in,” Barrett told CBS News Detroit.

Ultimately, the thieves made off with the keys to a high-powered Dodge Charger. The dealership’s owner believes the group would have come back to retrieve it.

“They didn’t actually enter the building where the Skat Pack was. Another one of our protocols is we figure we aren’t going to leave the keys in the same building as the car,” Barrett said.

The team wore face masks but one ended up removing theirs to smoke a vape pen. While police investigate, Barrett hopes, that slip-up leads to an arrest. The Dodge Charger is no longer on the property. Now it’ll be sold at an auction wholesale.

“Typically what they’ll do is just get two keys re-programmed so that the other key wouldn’t work,” Barrett said.

According to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, vehicle thefts statewide have increased. Over 28,000 were reported in 2023 alone.

“This is very unusual for our area. Obviously, we’re disappointed it happened,” Barrett said.

The dealership has since beefed up security. All the while no one was hurt nor cars damaged.

Detroit Pistons Listed Among Best Fits for LA Clippers Guard

Detroit Pistons Listed Among Best Fits for LA Clippers Guard

As the trade deadline rapidly approaches, the Detroit Pistons have primarily focused on using their cap space to help other teams facilitate trades. With less than 24 hours to go, they have been listed among the best landing spots for one Western Conference guard.

On Wednesday, The Athletic put out an updated version of their NBA Trade Board that features over 40 players. Among those mentioned was Bones Hyland of the LA Clippers, when listing landing spots for the 24-year-old, the Pistons were among the teams mentioned.

Hyland had a nice start to his career back when he was a Denver Nugget, making the All-Rookie team. However, it’s been a tough go since then. He can get buckets, averaging seven points in 11 minutes per game this season. The question is whether he can get them efficiently, as he’s made under 40 percent of his shots throughout his career. And the less said about his game on defense, the better.

With Jaden Ivey still recovering from injury, the Pistons could benefit from adding more depth to their backcourt. While things haven’t panned out for him on the Clippers, Hyland could be someone for Detroit to take a flier on.

Hyland is a proven scorer when given the opportunity, averaging as many as 12.1 PPG during his time with the Denver Nuggets. He is also a reliable three-point shooter, currently converting 38.8% of his attempts this season. Hyland has his struggles defensively, by the Pistons have the personnel to hide someone like him.

Adding someone who can score and create their own shot could provide a lift for the Pistons’ second unit. Hyland is also on the last year of his contract and making a modest $4.1 million. This gives Detroit the chance to take a chance on him now without having to make any long-term commitments.

Hyland is far from a big splash for the Pistons, but depending on how the market shapes up, could be worth pursuing depending on the asking price.
