Nebraska WBB loses fourth straight game
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Nebraska women’s basketball team lost its fourth straight game on Thursday. The Huskers fell to unranked Minnesota, 84-67, at Williams Arena.
Nebraska fell behind early and never claimed the lead, despite a late-game surge. Amiah Hargrove’s 3-pointer in the fourth quarter pulled the Big Red within six points, but NU got no closer as the homestanding Golden Gophers finished strong. Minnesota ended the game on a 13-2 run.
Britt Prince scored a team-high 15 points for Nebraska. Hargrove, Jessica Petrie, and Logan Nissley also scored in double figures for the Huskers.
Nebraska’s record drops to 16-9 (5-9 Big Ten). The Huskers return to action on Monday against Iowa.

Nebraska running back arrested in Florida on aggravated battery charge
KEY WEST, Fla. (KOLN) – A Nebraska football running back was arrested in Florida on Monday.
According to jail records, 20-year-old Mekhi Nelson is accused of aggravated battery involving a pregnant woman in Key West, Florida.
Details about the alleged assault are limited. 10/11 News has made a request for more information with the Key West Police Department.
He will be arraigned in court on July 9 at 9 a.m.
The sophomore has been with Nebraska since 2024. He played 12 games with one start during the 2025-26 football season.
Nelson is still listed on the Nebraska football roster as of Monday afternoon.
10/11 News contacted Nebraska Athletics for a statement and received the following response:
“The Nebraska Athletic Department and football program are aware of the arrest of Mekhi Nelson in Florida. We have no further comment at this time.”

Heartland Nebraska group presents Quilts of Valor to six veterans
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Six veterans were honored Saturday, June 27, as Heartland Nebraska Quilts of Valor presented handmade quilts to service members “touched by war.”
Organizers said the Quilts of Valor National Foundation has awarded 447,658 quilts to active-duty military members and veterans since it began.
The Heartland Nebraska Quilts of Valor group has presented 204 quilts since starting its local chapter in 2019.
Saturday’s recipients were:
- Kevin F. Donohue, U.S. Navy, 1973-1976
- Michael Chipps, U.S. Army Reserve, 1974-1996
- Wayne Hildebrand, U.S. Air Force, 1969-1973
- Robert D. Caudillo, U.S. Navy, 1970-1974
- Mac Trujillo Jr., U.S. Marine Corps, 1966-1969
- Salvador Munoz, U.S. Navy, 1964-1968
The Heartland Nebraska group said the quilts are presented to recognize veterans for their service and sacrifice.
