'Death to Israeli real estate,' 'Death to America' signs found on NYU property, NYPD says
Police officers involved in clearing out protesters at a New York City college campus are sharing signs recovered from the scene bearing terrorist slogans.
New York Police Department officers broke up an “illegal encampment” at New York University on Friday, with cleaning crews called in to remove tents and sweep away the belongings of the protesters.
NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry shared various photos of “inflammatory literature and signage” found at the protest.

“The NYPD proudly protects everyone’s right to free speech and peaceful protest,” Daughtry said in the post, before sharing the signage.
One piece of literature found on the site explicitly calls for “Death to America” and “Death to Israeli real-estate.”
NYPD Chief John Chell spoke to reporters on Friday and confirmed the NYPD had two operations “at the request of school presidents,” including at New York University and The New School in New York.

He confirmed that officers arrested 56 people, with no incidents. The police chief noted that “99%” of those arrested were students.
“You will not find a truce from us,” one sign recovered from the protest area said.
“Enough with De-Escalation Trainings: Where are the Escalation Trainings!” added another.

On April 22, police went to NYU and arrested more than 100 students who held a demonstration in solidarity with the students at Columbia University and to oppose Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza.
On Wednesday, Fox News correspondent Alexis McAdams reported from the campus that the anti-Israel agitators had re-established the encampment.

City of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy break ground on McKinley Park Community Grove
In an effort to provide a vibrant community space, the city of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy broke ground at McKinley Park, marking a major milestone in the park’s revitalization.
Nestled between Beltzhoover, Bon Air, and Knoxville, McKinley Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in the city, and this space will be transformed into the community’s newest hub.
“What we hope with this community Grove [is that it] ties that together,” said Catherine Qureshi, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy.
Tying the community and generations of people to gather in an all-encompassing natural space.
“Seeing this come to life, it’s just wonderful, and we are very, very proud and excited,” said Jennifer Cash Wade, a community member in Beltzhoover.
The Community Grove has been in the works for over a decade, and the park itself is over a century old. It’ll offer a place to play, sit, and relax for the surrounding communities and beyond.
“When people are coming down from Bausman or from Michigan, this is where you can meet, and then you can go to other parts of the park. It really actually opens up the park,” Qureshi said.
Within McKinley Park, there are trails, playgrounds, tennis courts, and more. The hope is that the Grove complements the existing amenities.
“When we can open up our park space, we can have more access for kids and families to come together. This is how you build a community and city. Parks and recreation are at the heart of each and every neighborhood,” Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor said.
“This was where we spent a vast amount of our childhood. I was in Brownies and Girl Scouts. We had cookouts, campfires,” Wade added. “The park gave us everything we needed. We went through the trails and nature hikes. I mean, it was just an asset, and it is one of the jewels of Beltzhoover.”
The Community Grove project is set to be completed by the fall of 2026.
One person is dead after a car crash in New Haven on Saturday.
The crash occurred at the 600 block of Woodward Avenue, according to New Haven Police.

AUGUSTA — Laura Fortman, Maine’s Labor Commissioner, announced Saturday that workers who were displaced from Rollins Lumber would soon have access to a program that would help them get unemployment help faster.
“The Department of Labor’s Rapid Response team has been in contact with the company,” Fortman wrote. “The team will do a needs assessment on Monday and identify the range of service employees need, including unemployment insurance, and the best way to provide those services,” she wrote.
Fortman said that she would encourage any worker impacted to apply for unemployment insurance by going to the Maine Department of Labor website or calling the department Monday through Friday at 1-800-593-7660. The Rapid Response team will also provide information about how to apply for unemployment insurance at their meetings.
