James Gunn’s new ‘Superman: Legacy’ movie set to film in Cleveland, will bring 3,000+ Ohio jobs

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Warner Bros’ new Superman movie is set to film in Cleveland in the coming months.

According to the film’s Ohio tax application, “Superman: Legacy,” under the code name “Genesis” which was the early title of the film, was allowed to start pre-production earlier this year on February 5.

The application lists the production-related budget as $363,845,386. The film will be awarded $11,091,686.70 in tax credit from the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit.

Though the film is listed under a code name, “Superman: Legacy” is the true project based on the director listed, James Gunn, the cast list, including David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nathan Fillian, and the production company S&K Pictures, Inc, which is a subsidiary of Warner Bros.

The application reveals 25% of the total production will be filmed in Ohio. Though the application does not yet list specific addresses, the two Ohio filming locations are listed as Cleveland and Cincinnati.

Production is expected to take place between April 1 and August 23.

This year, GCFC has attracted more motion picture production business than ever before to choose NE Ohio as its filming destination. In combination with motion picture production applicants from recent previous rounds, GCFC has secured a total combined production budgets of $152,385,587.65 to spend and create jobs in NE Ohio in 2024. But GCFC is a not for profit that does not receive any commission or revenue from the production spending and job creation it drives to NE Ohio.

The Ohio motion picture tax credit program expands by 50% in the next round, which accepts applicants from April 15th to June 1st, with applications approved in July. This expansion arms GCFC with an essential tool to transform NE Ohio into a leader in motion picture production investment and job creation.

Back in 1938, the very first Superman comic book was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two Clevelanders, to help people get through the Great Depression.

James Gunn announced last November “Superman: Legacy” will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

Ohio agents confiscate firearm from 13-year-old in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio Investigative Unit announced Thursday in a press release that it confiscated a firearm from a 13-year-old.

The unit’s work is part of Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s Violent Crime Reduction Operation in Cleveland and Cincinnati.

While agents were making felony arrests and recovering illegally possessed firearms one night, they saw an armed 13-year-old walking near downtown Cleveland.

Agents approached the teenager, took him into custody and discovered the firearm was illegally possessed.

The teen faces pending charges in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.

“The Ohio Investigative Unit remains committed to supporting our local partners in reducing violent crime in their communities,” Senior Enforcement Commander Greg Croft said. “Through these multi-agency collaborations, we are working collectively to ensure a safer Ohio for everyone.”
