Damaging Winds In MD: 55 MPH Gusts Possible Monday
MARYLAND — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook and a wind advisory for most of Maryland on Monday.
Expect winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph until 5 p.m. Monday, according to the weather service.
“Damaging winds will continue to be possible through the day today before subsiding later tonight,” the Baltimore-DC office of the National Weather Service said. “Mostly sunny skies are expected with highs in the 40s for the mountains with 50s across the lower elevations.”
A wind advisory is in place until 5 p.m. for these areas: Washington, Carroll, Baltimore, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Marys, Calvert, Montgomery, Howard and Harford counties. Also under the advisory are Hagerstown, Frederick, Eldersburg, Westminster, Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Elkton, Baltimore, Bowie, Frederick, Suitland-Silver Hill, College Park, Greenbelt, Laurel, Camp Springs, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Severn, South Gate, Severna Park, Arnold, Odenton, St. Charles, Waldorf, Lexington Park, California, Chesapeake Beach, Huntingtown, Dunkirk, North Beach, Lusby, Germantown, Damascus, Bethesda, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Lisbon, Columbia, Ellicott City, Jarrettsville, and Aberdeen.
A hazardous weather outlook is also in place Monday for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia.

“Heavy rain and robust thunderstorms are projected to develop ahead of the boundary, soaking areas from Oklahoma to the Southeast coast from Thursday to Friday evening,” Accuweather said.
Here’s the seven-day Maryland forecast from the National Weather Service:
Monday: Sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy, with a northwest wind 23 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph.
Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 46. West wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 70. West wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. West wind around 6 mph.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.
Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 76.
Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56.
Friday: A chance of rain after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Friday Night: Rain likely, mainly between 8pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Saturday: A chance of rain. Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 49.
Sunday: A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
HYATTSVILLE, Md. — The parents of a 7-year-old first grader with autism are demanding answers from Prince George’s County Public Schools after their son suffered a severe leg fracture while at school — an injury no one has been able to explain.
Daevian Donaldson, a student at Felegy Elementary School in Hyattsville, is recovering from surgery after his femur was snapped and displaced during class last Friday, according to his parents, Daechele Kaufman and Anthony Donaldson.

Kaufman said the day began normally as she dropped Daevian and his twin brother off for first grade. Around 9 a.m., she received an alarming phone call from the school.
“They just said he was on the floor screaming and didn’t want anyone to touch him,” Kaufman said.
She rushed to the school and found her son with obvious trauma to his leg. Neither staff nor Daevian — who communicates differently because he is on the autism spectrum — could explain how the injury occurred, she said.
Doctors later confirmed the severity of the injury through X-rays.
“When I saw the X-ray and one of the nurses said he was going to need surgery, all these wheels started turning,” Kaufman said.

The parents said they later learned Daevian’s regular teacher was attending a meeting at the time, and the special-needs classroom was being supervised by a substitute. They said no clear explanation has been provided for how a child could suffer such a serious injury without staff noticing what happened.
“It’s definitely neglect,” Kaufman said. “You can’t turn away and come back and say, ‘Oh, you fell,’ for a major injury like that. That’s not acceptable.”
After the family raised concerns publicly, Prince George’s County Public Schools issued a statement saying the district is investigating the incident and has placed the staff member involved on administrative leave.
Anthony Donaldson said that response does not go far enough.
“It needs to be more than one person on administrative leave,” he said. “Several people need to be evaluated on how they’re trained, or they need to be fired.”
Daevian is continuing to recover after surgery but is still experiencing pain, his parents said. As the interview concluded, the 7-year-old quietly asked for his medication.
The family said they want accountability — and assurances that other children, especially those with special needs, will be kept safe.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a 62-year-old man died in a barn fire at his home in Chaptico, Md. It’s believed that the victim was actor Bobby J. Brown, who starred on “The Wire.”
