COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A Colorado bike maker is picking up the pieces after he said the same two men broke into his facility on back-to-back days.

Borealis Fat Bikes CEO and founder Steve Kaczmarek said the first break-in happened around 2:45 Sunday night. Surveillance footage provided to 11 News shows two men using a rock and then another unidentified tool to break the glass of the front door. Once inside, they grab two bikes and flee.

Kaczmarek said one of the bikes they stole that night was their number one prototype, the first bike they ever made.

“It’s unique,” he said. “There’s not a single bike like it in the world so we’ll know exactly which bike it is if the police ever find it or somebody ever finds it.”

Kaczmarek said the second incident happened early Monday morning. Surveillance video shows two men make entry into the store and grab two electric bikes from the back storage area. After a struggle, the men manage to get the bikes out the back door. He notes those bikes did not have pedals or chargers.

Kaczmarek said the four bikes come out to a total of $1,600. He said he felt violated after he heard about the first break-in but after he learned of the second break-in, his feelings turned to anger.

“I just said, ‘Really?’ Everybody is looking for good employees, there are so many good jobs available, why are people throwing rocks through windows and stealing stuff, probably for pennies on the dollar?” Kaczmarek said.

Kaczmarek is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the individuals who are responsible.

Colorado Springs Police said there are a number of ways suspects will try to sell stolen goods. They said the most common methods include different social media public group pages or they will sell them to people they know.

They said one way to recognize whether an item might be stolen is to look at the price. They said if there is a substantial price difference between a new item and one that is listed as “slightly used” or “only used once”, there is a good chance the item may be stolen.

They said if someone sees something online they believe is stolen, they should call the non-emergency line, 719-444-7000 to provide information. Do not try to confront a suspect or put yourself in danger.
