Pamela Moses, a Black Lives Matter activist and former candidate for Memphis mayor who was jailed for voter fraud — on charges that were later dropped — has registered a campaign committee with the Federal Election Commission, indicating a run for U.S. Senate.

“Pamela Moses is running for the Soul of Democracy, championing the cause of those who are often forgotten and underserved in our society. Her commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that all voices are heard sets her apart in a landscape often dominated by politricks,”  said Moses in a written statement.

Moses made national news when former Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich charged her with voter fraud for attempting to restore her right to vote — which was revoked while she was on probation from prior felony convictions. Moses was sentenced to six years in prison in January 2022 and in April of the same year, Weirich dropped all charges after a judge found the Tennessee Department of Correction had withheld evidence that would have exonerated Moses.

According to the FEC filing for the Committee to Elect Pamela Moses, Moses will run as an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Marsha Blackburn. State Rep. Gloria Johnson of Knoxville and Civil Miller-Watkins of Fayette County have filed to run as Democrats.

The general election will be Nov. 5, 2024.
